GIJON
So after my interesting time with the night bus getting to Gijon, I walked around the town, slept in the park, walked to the beach and then went to my couchsurfer, Ediite's house. I was sooo tired that I ended up having a sleep in the afternoon until we got up in the evening and went into town to meet some of her friends. We walked around for a while and then went to a cider bar. The way they drink cider in Northern Spain is not like anything else Ive ever seen. It tastes completely different too (I wasnt a big fan). It only comes in a big bottle and it is flat so to get bubbles in it they use 2 hands, one holding the glass down low while the other hand is high above their head pouring the cider onto the side of the glass to give it a 'lift'....but it also makes half the cider spill on the ground which is a waste if you ask me....but I have photos which make it easier to understand...I just havent uploaded them yet.
Then we hung out at the port for a while and then went to the main square where they had a concert. The concert was crap so after a while we left and went back home.
The next day Ediite and her friends went to the beach and I spent the day wondering around the town. I went to the top of a hill which had a weird statue thing on top and then slept and read on the grass for a while. After that I wondered around a bit more and then came across a Vespa Rally. There were LOTS and LOTS of Vespa's all done up and looking really nice ready to go on a ride together and when they did, I just watched in amazement going "I want one....."
Then I went to a very local restaurant for dinner. This was so local that it felt like they'd never need a traveller in their life....they also couldnt speak any english which made it more fun hahaha. I ended up ordering something and not knowing what it was. I got potatos, eggs, salad and a fillet of god knows what meat.....but now that Ive become a meat eater, it was actually really nice.
I then went home to meet Ediite and another couchsurfer who was staying at her house too and we stayed up talking for a while and drinking some wine. Then we called it a night.
Gijon was a nice town, nice beach and lots of festivals and things going on which was cool. Everywhere you looked there was music of some description.
