49 days to go...
No, wait. This is the line of succession *after* the President, i.e., if "anything bad happens." (Those of us who remember November of 1963 know what I mean, even though August of 1974 also brought the line of succession into play.)
I was trying to update my list of who Obama has named to his Cabinet (nice summary with pictures at the New York Times' website (I'll just provide a link --
Obama's Team So Far -- since the graphic is pretty large) and to conform the list as the Times has it with the official order of succession (
a summary of that and its history at Wikipedia, though of course the folks listed are the current Bush appointees), when I happened across
a Boing Boing post in which Dale Dougherty lists Cabinet appointees by the incoming President of Toontown. Totally silly, though Secretary of State Wilma Rockham Flintstone sounds vaguely familiar... Also, while Uncle Scrooge as economic advisor sounds good, my Keynesian instincts cringe.
I may post the list of Obama appointees in the succession order, but not now; it's close to closing time here now.
We used to get a lot of questions at the reference desk about the order of Presidential succession. Not so much lately. Maybe Wikipedia is answering this question for me. If so, I returned the favor by adding a little to the Wiki page while I was there. in regards to the Secretary of the Navy being dropped from the list. It was a minor point in the scheme of things, but one that I thought should have been mentioned.
