Last Memorial Day weekend, I took
this bike ride, and I decided to make it an annual route, passing by or through all my old schools and landmarks of people I know who have passed.
Stage 1: Sutter Middle School
* I didn't make it into campus, because just riding by the front brought back too many sour memories.
Stage 2: Phoebe Hearst Elementary School
* I had to hop the fence to get in and out, but almost all pleasant memories in there.
* Visited the memorial tree planted for my fourth grade teacher.
* Checked up on the U.S. map my mom directed our class in painting.
* On the way back toward downtown, passed the bridge where Sam jumped.
Stage 3: McClatchy High School
* All the best memories stayed, even though there's no way to get into the science quad.
* Passed Kevin's house.
Stage 4: Bret Harte Elementary School
* I only went there for kindergarten, so I don't remember much. Mostly I remember I got marked down for not being able to skip, but my mom and I practiced and practiced at home until I got so good that my teacher had me teach other kids how to do it.
* Passed Travis' house.
Plus *bonus* stops: Oak Park to watch some live DJs for a minute, Taylor's Market to buy a peanut butter cookie.
