Dear Friends,
Sunday afternoon. This weekend went by quickly. Yesterday my entire family and I ventured into New York City for the first time since being here. Somehow we picked the train that was filled with hundreds of loony Rangers fans on their way to a game. It was a loud, crowded trip to Penn Station. We had all forgotten, or maybe never fully realized how difficult the NY subway system can be to navigate, especiallly compared to London and Bangkok. But we made our way from Penn to lunch in Greenwich Village and back uptown to the Museum of Natural History. I hadn't been the the Museum since I was in 3rd grade, and, believe it or not, much smaller than I am now. I remember everything being bigger and more scary. Anyway, the dinosaurs and blue whale model are still impressive as ever, and there's a really neat Space Science Center that they just added. After a few hours in the Museum we walked around Central Park and finally made our way back to Penn Station. As luck would have it, our train back to Long Island was filled with Rangers fans on their way back from the game. Delightful.
In the past week I've been spending most of my time at the house, supervising painting, carpeting...that kind of thing. I made friends with Michael, our painter, who is also a West Wing fan. I've been exploring Long Island, finding things to do, looking for places I might find a job. In my exploration I found a wonderful Thai Restaurant. The food is more authentic, and dare I say, better than that of Surin. I do miss Surin though. But this little restaurant has Tom Yum Goong - one of my favorite dishes from Thailand - and REAL green curry, pad thai and panang. Delicious. Long Island (and NYC, duh) is worth a visit just for the food, I promise.
Today I went to IKEA, which is so overwhelmingly huge that I didn't buy any of the things I liked. But there is a little food section that had Marabou Chocolate from Sweeeeden! I bought some of that.
I'm sorry that I don't have anything more compelling for you to enjoy. I miss you all terribly and hope to see you soon, here or wherever you are.
Love,
Bhanu
