Okay so Friday evening wasn't so much fun. Stuck in traffic on 66 for two hours because of a concert at Nissan Pavilion kind of sucked. The rest of the weekend though:
Saturday morning Galen said he wanted chocolate for breakfast. Jokingly, I said "Yes and Daddy wants a Ducati, but it's not going to happen." For you non-bikers out there, a Ducati is the motorcycle equivalent of a Ferrari. Very fast, very cool, and very expensive. So then I flip to the motorcycle ads just for the heck of it and there was an ad for a 2000 Ducati 996S for a remarkably good price (about $3000 less than it was worth I found out later). I mentioned it to Lori, but figured there was probably something wrong with it. That afternoon we got a babysitter and went out for a little date - a nice lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Manassas and the matinee showing of Serenity. Serenity was absolutely terrific. Easily the best movie I've seen all year. Of course I haven't seen that many movies this year and I'm a big fan of all things Joss Whedon, but still. Along the way we also stopped at a consignment shop and got a great alligator costume for Perry and I picked up a book I've been looking for at Borders. In the parking lot at the movie theatre we also saw a Ducati (a different model than the one in the ad). Lori saw it and said, "That's a really cool bike. You should call about that ad when we get home." I love my wife. :)
I figured for sure the bike was sold by now, but I call when we get home. Turns out I'm the first one to call. Sunday morning I take the boys, drop them off at Grandma's and go to check out this bike. It turns out to be in perfect condition. Not a mark on it anywhere and it runs beautifully. I immediately write the guy a check. Apparently the guy and his wife both ride Ducati's and they just upgraded to the latest models. I dropped off a check for the remaining amount today and I pick up the bike on Tuesday.
My mom and Vern stopped by later that afternoon on their way home from South Carolina. It was a very pleasant visit and my mom got to spend some quality time with the boys so that was cool too. After that I spent most of the afternoon playing in the backyard with the boys.
It doesn't get much better than that.
