Her arrival into the city of Chicago had been quiet, easily missed, just another wanderer pulled from their world and brought here. There had been the typical feelings of disorientation, confusion, uncertainty, fear. The fear hadn't abated yet, and had in fact gained some strength in the last few days, as her mind begins to accept that this is indeed reality, and not merely a delusion brought on by some traumatic accident of which she has no memory.
Maura has, so far, remained near the relative safety of the Kashtta Tower; 'relative' because there is very little she can be certain of just yet, especially determining just how safe a place is. She recognizes the city as Chicago, but this is most certainly nothing like the Chicago she is familiar with. Her scientific and analytical mind is fighting for dominion over the unsettling and melancholic feelings also present. She had this sense immediately upon arrival that there were pernicious forces to be concerned about, and it's far more than the healthy concern one would have for the crime inherent in a big city. This isn't just a city, at least none she's ever known. There is seemingly no way out, no apparent reason for her to have ended up here to begin with, and that had darkened her mood temporarily. But a few days have passed, and she's managed to contend with those feelings, reminding herself that she's been alone before, and that cynicism won't be in any way productive.
But she misses her best friend.
There are no doubt many, many things she will come to learn about this place, but Maura has already begun to collect data and facts, begun to research, analyze, and investigate, all in an attempt to cull together enough information to reach a viable conclusion about what she is facing.
There is also the matter of a place to stay, and a means to earn some money. She can't help noticing the morgue in the Kashtta, and decides that is something she'll have to look into. If there is a police force in place -- and she certainly hopes there is that, at least -- perhaps she can assist there, and grasp some semblance of normalcy.
At the moment, she can be seen standing outside of the Kashtta, a cup of coffee in her hand. It's late morning, and she's debating a return trip to the library.
