Seated on one of the couches in the Kashtta's lounge is Dave, who is currently reading up on some magical history.
The book on the table in front of him is really, really large, and extremely old.
Seated on the nearby couch is Gilderoy, who just can't seem to figure out how the remote works. He's familiar with television, of course, but as far as he'

He's almost starting to regret agreeing to this, except he likes Kenzie and learning would be really cool and. He really needs to stop pacing outside of the Kashtta and just go in already.
Leon wipes his palms on his shorts and then goes through the front door of the Kashtta, trying his best to smile and appear not completely nervous while not coming across as an overconfident jerk.
"Hi!" he says, then almost winces at how cheery he sounds. "I'm. Here."
Leon is not very good at conversations. Hence, he just states the obvious all the time. Yay?

"Leon, hey! You ready?" She shoves the bow and arrow set he'll be using at him, all smiles. It's definitely a beginner's set.

"I'm ready if you're ready," he flashes her a small grin. This is going to be fun, Leon. Seriously it is. And if it isn't, well. There's no point in being all uncomfortable about it. It's just going to make things more awkward. "To the park?"
Reply
"To the park!" CHAAAARGE.
Not really.
Kenzie leads the way, walking at a fairly relaxed pace. "So, what's up?"
Reply
He walks a half-step behind her, just out of habit, trying to casually watch how she carries her bow just so he doesn't fuck it up. He doesn't care if she doesn't expect him to know, he doesn't want to fuck up the bow before he even gets the chance to shoot it.
"Not much," he admits. "I've been doing my English reading so I don't have to do it the week before classes start. And, y'know. Working on my Common App and stuff." It feels weird to be talking about this stuff with her, because he doesn't think she's doing any of the same stuff. Sure, Chicago Public Schools accept wanderers, but... do colleges? He doesn't know, but it feels weird to talk about it.
Reply
"Oh. Yeaaaah, I should... do some of that stuff." She'd love to go back to school in September, since she has no intention of leaving the city again anytime soon. "Um. What's a Common App?"
Reply
"Um. The Common App," he says, like it's going to explain it all to her. "It's. For colleges. Instead of filling out fifty billion different applications for different schools, it's just the one application for a bunch of different schools, plus, like. Supplementals and shit if they have any, you know?" He feels like he's probably failing to explain anything properly.
"...I'm applying to a school in Maine!" he announces, like that's going to make up for his shitty explanation. Yup. Not that he thinks he's going to get into Bowdoin, or be able to pay for it, but. HE IS STILL APPLYING, DAMMIT.

But she's taken it in stride so far. She's not sure what grade she'll end up in, come September, but whatever.
"That sounds... uh. Complicated." She's not going to college. How could she? "That's cool, though! Which school?"

He certainly did a lot of it, this year. To the point where he no longer has, y'know. FRIENDS. Not that he had any in the first place, but. School pretty much sucked his brain out this year.
"It's. Not that complicated," he says. "It's just, like. Questions you have to fill out and shit. Stuff." Kait's trying to get him to stop cursing so much. It's not going very well. "Basically it's an application. Y'know. The Common Application. So I don't have to fill out fifty or anything." Not that Leon's applying to fifty schools. He can't really AFFORD to apply to fifty schools. Just a couple out-of-state stuff and some in the city which he really doesn't want to go to because they're in the city, but he has resigned himself to the fact that he will probably have to go to, because he doesn't really have enough money to go to a private school out of state ( ... )

...but that doesn't mean she's particularly interested. She's trying her best to look that way, though! "I guess that's pretty convenient. I've never heard of Bowdoin, but I know where Brunswick is. It's south of me... probably by a couple of hours."
And then she smiles. "I'm sure you'll get in. Um. Somewhere. Maybe there? You seem pretty smart, so."
Reply
"But, y'know, no harm in trying!" Which is something Kait always says that Leon knows is a total lie, no matter how many times he repeats it to himself. "What about you?" he asks. "I mean. I know you need to go back to school and stuff, but. You know the school I go to--Looney High? They let Wanderers in. You don't even have to pay or really have any ID or anything." At least that's what Leon's understanding is. It might be a little more complicated than that.
Also he can't believe it's summer and he's talking about school. Maybe he really did turn into a nerd this year.

Which is more than she can say, but she knows there's really no chance of her winding up in college anytime soon. She doesn't even know what she'd study.
She snickers a little as he speaks. "Yeah, dude. I know. I was there last year for a little while before I did the whole running away thing."
It's not like she showed up every day, but she was there!

And then he blushes as she snickers. "Oh. Seriously? What classes were you taking?" Was he really so oblivious, so caught up in studying and prepping for the SAT and shit he didn't even notice her? That would be more embarrassing than just about anything ever.
"When did you leave? Before spring exams, obviously, right?
Reply
"Uhhh. Stuff. I'm signed up for some drama class, and physics, I think." Kenzie rarely pays attention to her own life. She just lets things happen and goes with them.
"I left... in February, I think. And I came back in... June? I think it was June."
Reply
"Are you going to come back in the fall?" he asks. "I mean. Y'know. To school." Not that they'd have classes together, because he's a senior and she's a... he doesn't know, but maybe he could sign up to take a beginning-level art class with her or something. Just so she doesn't feel lonely at school or whatever.

Which is not really like her, but school is weird. Especially in a city as large as this one.
"Yeah, totally. I'm pretty sure my friend Anne would... yell at me a lot if I didn't."
She was gonna go with 'punch me in the face,' but she knows Anne wouldn't do that.
