Seated on one of the couches in the Kashtta's lounge is Dave, who is currently reading up on some magical history.
The book on the table in front of him is really, really large, and extremely old.
Seated on the nearby couch is Gilderoy, who just can't seem to figure out how the remote works. He's familiar with television, of course, but as far as he'

He certainly did a lot of it, this year. To the point where he no longer has, y'know. FRIENDS. Not that he had any in the first place, but. School pretty much sucked his brain out this year.
"It's. Not that complicated," he says. "It's just, like. Questions you have to fill out and shit. Stuff." Kait's trying to get him to stop cursing so much. It's not going very well. "Basically it's an application. Y'know. The Common Application. So I don't have to fill out fifty or anything." Not that Leon's applying to fifty schools. He can't really AFFORD to apply to fifty schools. Just a couple out-of-state stuff and some in the city which he really doesn't want to go to because they're in the city, but he has resigned himself to the fact that he will probably have to go to, because he doesn't really have enough money to go to a private school out of state.
"Um, Bowdoin? It's. A private liberal arts school. In Brunswick. I probably won't get in, but. I applied." Which is something! Or. Something. Leon's bad at conversations and shit. Stuff. Goddammit.

...but that doesn't mean she's particularly interested. She's trying her best to look that way, though! "I guess that's pretty convenient. I've never heard of Bowdoin, but I know where Brunswick is. It's south of me... probably by a couple of hours."
And then she smiles. "I'm sure you'll get in. Um. Somewhere. Maybe there? You seem pretty smart, so."

"But, y'know, no harm in trying!" Which is something Kait always says that Leon knows is a total lie, no matter how many times he repeats it to himself. "What about you?" he asks. "I mean. I know you need to go back to school and stuff, but. You know the school I go to--Looney High? They let Wanderers in. You don't even have to pay or really have any ID or anything." At least that's what Leon's understanding is. It might be a little more complicated than that.
Also he can't believe it's summer and he's talking about school. Maybe he really did turn into a nerd this year.

Which is more than she can say, but she knows there's really no chance of her winding up in college anytime soon. She doesn't even know what she'd study.
She snickers a little as he speaks. "Yeah, dude. I know. I was there last year for a little while before I did the whole running away thing."
It's not like she showed up every day, but she was there!

And then he blushes as she snickers. "Oh. Seriously? What classes were you taking?" Was he really so oblivious, so caught up in studying and prepping for the SAT and shit he didn't even notice her? That would be more embarrassing than just about anything ever.
"When did you leave? Before spring exams, obviously, right?

"Uhhh. Stuff. I'm signed up for some drama class, and physics, I think." Kenzie rarely pays attention to her own life. She just lets things happen and goes with them.
"I left... in February, I think. And I came back in... June? I think it was June."

"Are you going to come back in the fall?" he asks. "I mean. Y'know. To school." Not that they'd have classes together, because he's a senior and she's a... he doesn't know, but maybe he could sign up to take a beginning-level art class with her or something. Just so she doesn't feel lonely at school or whatever.

Which is not really like her, but school is weird. Especially in a city as large as this one.
"Yeah, totally. I'm pretty sure my friend Anne would... yell at me a lot if I didn't."
She was gonna go with 'punch me in the face,' but she knows Anne wouldn't do that.
