Quite alone, or so she believes, Cassie Riddle can be found up on the roof of the Kashtta Tower today. She hasn't left her room in over a week and it's been driving her crazy. She needed to get out and some air without walking the streets - so the roof seemed the best place for her to be. Even though it's pouring it down - she's stood, leaning ( Read more... )

By the time Bela finds Capa in the cafeteria, he seems to have been sleeping for a very long time. It's not that she's concerned at all for his well-being. Unless she knows you well, it's highly likely that she doesn't care whether you sleep in the cafeteria or in the streets. It's what he's sleeping on that has Bela's attention.

She makes her way over, peering at some of the documents as though she's trying to discern what they're about. At first she can see that most of the paperwork is about the rift, but anything actually worth reading disappears beneath Capa himself. She reaches forward slowly, trying to pull one of the pages off the table so that she can read it. She's going slowly, as to let the man stay sleeping, but who knows if that's going to work.

Capa's completely oblivious to the woman snooping around him. He lets out a soft sigh, shifting his head slightly. He hears the words someone most dear to him smoke: Every time I close my eyes? It's always the same. The surface of the sun. He appears unsettled, his brow full of emotion. He feels worry, wonder and loss at the same time.

And in his dream, he still falls and falls - faster into the surface of the sun.

Just before he hits the flares, he lets out a yell and bolts upright, panting heavily.

"What?! I just-" he looks at the woman, still unable to focus right. "Oh,"

Bela blinks at him, his papers in her hand, but the confusion enough to keep her from realizing that she shouldn't have been snooping. She frowns for a moment, before actually speaking.

"Are you alright?"

Capa blinks, trying to wake himself up properly. He straightens up, looking more than a little flustered before he picks up a piece of paper he knocked off the table. He looks at the woman once more, his mouth open to speak and feeling incredibly awkward.

"I dozed off," he says lamely.

He notices that she's holding a few of his papers, "... can I help you with anything?"

She glances down at the papers in her hand, and then looks a bit sheepish herself. It isn't that she felt she was doing anything wrong, but she hadn't wanted to be caught being curious about such research either. She still isn't sure what her stance on the Rift is, but she is curious about whoever wants to find out what makes it tick.

"I was just looking at your research," she says, handing the papers back over to him. "What is it that you're studying, exactly?"

Capa rubs at his eyes tiredly and looks at her with raised eyebrows. "Ahh, my work," he says.

He turns to look at his notes and notices there is still a kitten pawing at a pile of books. He sighs and picks the kitten up before placing it on the floor. He's not particularly fond of animals, especially when they're so keen to ruin his work.

"A few things, really," he says finally, "All about the Rift. I was doing research on whether the Rift is more than a teleportation device in regards to riftpowers. I believe it that the powers it gives Wanderers are extremely personal to that person. Maybe the Rift sees that as it pulls Wanderers through, it looks inside of them. Perhaps it might be some sort of being,"

He smiles weakly. See Capa. See Capa ramble. "It sounds silly, really - but I'm interested in the thing anyway. But recently, I'm wondering if there's a way to reverse the Rift's direction - to send people home,"

Her eyes widen a bit at that, and she's quiet for a long moment. Reversing the rift may be good for most people, but it's not so good for Bela. Not that she's going to openly admit that quite yet. She needs to find out more information first.

"Everyone?"

Capa watches her closely, it's not the reaction he's expecting. He would suspect most people would be over the moon instead of being lost in a quiet contemplation. He tilts his head to the side when she finally speaks.

"Well, who ever wishes to go back to their own world," he says with a small shrug, "Sometimes reversing the Rift to the point at which a Wanderer was initially picked up wouldn't be entirely plausible,"

He knows he wouldn't be able to go back to where he was picked up from, anyway.

She exhales slowly, before shaking her head. "I am just thinking ... some people might actually prefer Chicago to their own home. It makes their lives easier."

Capa pauses to take this in and considers it for a moment, "True. Although I'd have to confess that Chicago being easier to a Wanderer would mean that they've got a hell of a lot of problems back in their own world,"

He suspects this is the case with her, anyway.

"I can't go back, not to where I was," he says gently, "The Rift took me from space, there's no ship to go back to. It's gone. We're not always so lucky, I'm afraid,"

Capa sighs and shakes his head, he holds out a hand to shake, "Robert Capa,"

"Bela Talbot," she says softly, extending her hand to shake his. "And I'm in a bit of the same boat, I'm afraid. If the Rift sends me home, I die. Therefore, I'm not exactly looking to make that return trip."

Capa makes a face of sympathy, "I understand. I'm sorry about that," he says with a slow nod of his head, "Well, if I ever do work the Rifts out - a return will be there as a choice. We all have rights here despite those who think we shouldn't have them - if we wish to seek refuge here, it should be allowed,"

Oh, hell - Bela. As in the Bela that hates him for upsetting Parker. Well, she doesn't know it was him since Parker didn't say his name. But he knows for a fact that Bela will be wanting to hit whoever upset her.

He doesn't want to be hit, so she's never going to find out it was him. However, he has raised eyebrows to explain.

"Bela?" he asks with a smile, "You don't happen to know a blonde by the name of Parker, do you? I've heard your name before, she thinks highly of you,"

Bela doesn't want to hit you, Capa. She wants to shoot you. There's a very painful difference.

She raises an eyebrow at the mention of Parker, before nodding. "Yes. Parker's a friend of mine."
