[OOC: the death of Rachel and Robin. Again, anyone is welcome into the actual party building. Currently, pre-explosion posting into the party can happen. :) Instead of worrying about the smalltalk beforehand? Might be easier to coordinate. It's only the conference room in a separate building that no one should be in unless they want to die with R ( Read more... )

Party Time [pre bomb stuff] smithnjones March 24 2011, 05:19:18 UTC
[OOC: Comment off of this thread for pre-party shenanigans. :)]

The building where the party is set up at has tables filled with food on it of all kinds. There are punch bowls for those who would like refreshment. Decorations are hanging around on the walls that celebrate Spring.

There's a wide variety of good music playing through the stereo. It ranges from new music to the oldies to rock 'n roll to hip hop. There is something for everyone to enjoy on the dance floor or as they talk to the wallflower next to them.

They decided to not hold the party in the Tower this time to make it more accessible to a wider range of people who wouldn't have to feel like they had to enter the creepy tower to be a part of supernatural community events. There is the usual security posted around the building as well. A large number of the wanderers, angels, and demons in attending likely have weapons, but the security from the Tower should be the largest force there in case anything gets out of hand.

Wes? Not the party kind of guy. But he's used to following Martha around like a tall shadow for these kinds of events. Some people mistake the guardian for a bodyguard (you can insert a Kevin Costner joke here.)

There's going to be a lot of food though, so he can't complain.

He may have already been sneaking in some sandwiches into his hand, and he might be chewing on something suspiciously while he's walking over to her, his free hand smoothing down the somewhat fancy shirt he's wearing. Hey, if he's guardian to the leader of the Wanderer community, he might as well look nice every now and then.

"Anything else I can do?"

Martha is the party kind of girl. Generally speaking. She has had a really good last few months so she's certainly in the mood for a party today, and she's at one of the food tables putting up the finishing touches.

She glances up at Wes at the question and smiles. He does clean up rather nicely when he needs to.

"Don't think so. Seems like everything's set nicely," she says with a smile, whether he comes because he's her guardian or not, she's still grateful for his presence as always. "Well, there's the cake. Have you ever cut cake before? Little squares that you set on the plates for people to come and... eat. It's simple enough but it needs doing if you'd like to assist me."

"... I have cut cake before, but it was a long, long time ago," he says, frowning as he tries thinking that far back. Your guardian is an old, old man, Martha. "It's probably like riding a bike, yeah?"

And he'd like to assist her. He'd do that whether he was her guardian or not, has done so whether she's his guardian or not, and it's nice to see her so relaxed.

"Looks like a lot of people turned up."

Martha has to bite down on her lip to keep from smiling at the long, long time ago. "It should be like riding a bike, yes. Shouldn't have too many issues even if it was a long, long, long, long time ago since you've last been cutting cake."

He did help her with repairs to the Conrad long before he was ever her guardian. It's strange how the Rift can make a dynamic change with ease. She steps over to the large cake. It's vanilla on one side and chocolate on the other.

"Yeah, I'm pleased with the results," she says. "Assuming nothing happens, it looks to be a good night."

She is relaxed, but it's not like all of their community events have gone off without hitch. She's being realistic.

It's all right, Martha. Wes has made peace with how old he is and honestly, it's the fact he doesn't look it that helps with accepting such a high number. "Hey, now. I said long, long time ago. Not long, long, long time ago. I see what you did there."

He nudges her shoulder teasingly and goes over to the cake, falling in step beside her. It's effortless, and he has always thought it's strange how their dynamic changed, how he became her guardian months after he met her.

Leaning against the table slightly, he gives the room a quick scan and smile sdown at her. "You should be. You come up with all these things and I think it helps them. Whatever's going on around, they can take the day and forget about it or try to."

Oh, Martha. The narration is so sorry for how not good of a night it will be. For real. :(

Martha grins at him as if she's completely innocent. "To be fair, you're much younger than many of the people I've been hanging around for the last two years or so," she says, and it's strange how she can talk so easily about Des and the Doctor now. It still aches to not have them here anymore, but she doesn't have to pretend they never existed to get through. "By several hundred years actually."

She walks over to the cake as well, and she hands him the knife while she prepares the plates to catch the cake. this is better than allowing anyone to cut the cake. The last thing they need is someone cutting off a finger.

"I hope it helps," she says softly. "I know it's not much in the end when compared to what everyone goes through in this city, but it's nice to have a few hours to forget about it, yeah?"

This narration is also very sorry.

Wes, knowing her as well as he does now, understands she means the Doctor and Des with that comment, and it is strange how easily the names come to her. It's strange and it's wonderful, and he's proud of her for being as strong as she is. "... See, now I feel like you're showing off here or putting me to shame."

He's either too old or not old enough! A guy can't win.

"... That looks like some damn good cake," he says, tempted to grab a bit of frosting with his pinky. In fact, he does so, very quickly, before his hand can be smacked away.

He places an arm around her shoulders and brings her closer in a one-arm hug. "It's nice, darlin'. It's really nice."

At those words, he gets a tap on the shoulder. "Could make out with me for a bit," Sunshine offers. And then makes to slap the back of his head, because fuck, this fucker hasn't been giving her the time of day lately and she resents that.

You don't go and save a girl from a whole bunch of bikers and forge a crazy friendship with her and then drop her.

Never mind the fact that more than half of the dropping is on her end, considering she's been off in Sunshine-land. Which is very far away from where Wes resides. "You look sharp in that getup, by the way."

Cassie is at the party. She’s still looking for Daniel and she’s managed to get her friends to help her out on trying to find him. But with everything that’s been happening in the last couple of months, she’s outright miserable right now. Her chat with Robin and spending St. Patrick’s Day down the pub with Saul has indeed lifted her spirits her little, but she’s still tired and she’s sad ( ... )

Nellie isn't sure why she's at this party, but she is. She hasn't been here long and she's looking for people she knows so that she can try to have a good time. She's been feeling a bit down herself, mostly out of missing someone very important to her, and the act of going to a party always helps cheer her up. Something about the fact that she can fake a good time so well, that she can even deceive herself.

When she sees a familiar face in the shadows of the room she smiles and makes her way over. She stands beside Cassie, drink in her hand, and bumps her hip into the other blond's gently.

"Hey darlin', havin' fun?"

Cassie looks to the side as she feels the light bump against her hip. She didn't even see Nellie approaching, too focused on both her dress and watching those sway and twirl to the music playing.

She wants a proper drink. Maybe she can go and dance if she's drunk enough. Dancing's fun, especially since she's a little bad at it. So she can laugh about it later and feel happy.

She just manages a small smile, "Hey, Nellie," she says with a nod of her head. "I'm trying to, anyway," she raises her eyebrows, "You?"

Nellie would agree with the drinking and dancing if Cassie were to mention it out loud. She also prefers feeling happy and laughing over feeling sad and lonely.

She shrugs at the question. "About the same, I guess. Everythin' alright?"

Cassie feels herself go a little wobbly at her question. It could be just a simple question, but she finds it a little more complicated. She takes a sip of her drink and lightly brushes at the fabric of her cream-coloured dress.

"It's... Chicago," she says finally with a small sigh. "It's bloody awful,"

She falls silent for a few moments and shakes her head, "I'm okay, just a little sad is all. A friend of mine is missing,"

Nellie frowns a bit. She hasn't heard Cassie say that about Chicago before, and while she would agree for the most part, it still worries her.

"I'm sorry for your friend," she says gently. "Do you need to talk about it? I may not know much for advice, but I can listen as well as anyone." Her other hand comes so that both are circling her drink, and she turns to Cassie more.

"Thank you," Cassie looks down briefly, exhaling softly, "I'm not really sure what to say," she says honestly with a quick shake of her head. She really doesn't.

When her friend Iris had lost her friend Hermione and she had come back again - but a different one that wouldn't remember her - she was at the ready with advice and things to say. But now, when it's come to herself - she doesn't know what to do. But Daniel hasn't come back, he's still missing. Nonetheless, she doesn't know what to do or say.

"We're not close, but he's important to me. I caused a black out about six months ago and he was there. He helped me, he got me to stop," she sighs, "So yeah... he means a lot to me,"

She rubs at her temple for a few moments. She doesn't like what she says next because she see how vulnerable it make her seem. And that's something she doesn't want to do, "I shouldn't really be here, I should be still looking him. But.. I just.. needed a break. I'm tired and I just... yeah,"
