Iris has noticed the snowball fights periodically occuring in the park. She's also noticed the reindeer ( ... )

Ran is not really pleased to see Iris at Molly's. Mostly because he'd rather he wasn't reminded of their sex life, or anything pertaining to it. Also, the perkiness gets to him. That, and he's always expecting her to start vomiting kittens and rainbows at any moment. Highly unlikely, but he's also never spoken more than two words to her.

He opened the door with a scowl, and raises an eyebrow. "Can I help you?" That would be a polite statement, except it's coming from Ran, and that means he's being a complete and utter dick. He knows exactly why she's here, and he also realises it's insanely cold outside and he should probably let her in.

But he's just standing her, staring at her.

Iris would be highly alarmed if she began vomiting kittens and rainbows, Ran. And would totally understand you wanting her to leave the room. On the other hand, she also hopes you'd take her to the infirmary. Cats coughing up hairballs is one thing; humans coughing up cats, well, that kind of sounds like a medical emergency.

Thankfully, though, the Rift is not that mean, and has only frozen her, rather than giving her an attack of feline-induced consumption. Still, she looks rather uncomfortable as she stands there, slightly blue-tinged, shifting hurriedly from foot to foot in a futile attempt to warm herself.

"--can I, like, come in?"

Chances are, if she really were to start vomiting up furry animals, he'd make some popcorn and sit down to watch the carnage. He's not nice enough to take anyone to the doctor, unless it's Molly, and that's purely self-preservation. If Molly dies there's a very good chance he would, and he doesn't particularly want to die. He'd be fine with Iris going however.

Ran shrugs, leaning against the doorway. His deceptively long legs bar the way inside, and he cocks his head, examining her. She looks cold, and he couldn't care less. She's on his list of people he'd kill if someone wouldn't miss the body.

"You're doing the fucking like thing now?" he drawls, completely unaffected by her adorable shivering and shuffling. "You can either come in or not come in. There's no like involved."

She doesn't understand what he means, at first, by the fucking like thing. She parsed that at first as the fucking, like, thing, and was for a moment unsure whether to stare at him wide-eyed for the crudeness of that or to say I thought you already knew Molly and I were together-- but what does that have to do with her coming in?-- and then, thankfully, she gets it.

"Um, well, it's not like I mean to, but it gets to be a habit when you spend time around someone, you know?" She smiles apologetically. She's also doing the you know thing, though she's now trying to keep the Valspeak down on purpose, not wanting to bug Ran any further. It just slips out, sometimes.

"...can I come in?" she repeats, bowing forcefully. "I wanna see Molly, and it's, like, freezing out here." She pauses, and re-states. "...It's freezing out here."

He spends most days with Molly and he hasn't picked it up. Then again he knows she fakes it, and his speaking pattern also still contains traces of his brogue. He might hate his Irish family members, but he vastly prefers them to most everyone else.

Ran's a proud misanthrope.

He sighs and rolls his eyes, stepping away from the door. "Whatever. Molly will probably bitch at me if I let you freeze to death." He'd much rather deal with Iris than have to listen to Molly's incessant ranting.

She sheds her winter boots and steps in past him, bowing again as she does so. "Th-thanks," she stammers, rubbing her hands together. She almost wishes she hadn't taken off the boots, but this is Molly's home, and it wouldn't do to tread snow all over the floor.

She hasn't really paid much attention to Ran either, previously, and now she's starting to get the distinct feeling he doesn't like her. Which is-- odd, for someone who's barely even spoken to her. She furrows her brow, a little, at that. She's used to being disliked, but-- not so quickly, not without even an exchange of words.

"...you're her Guardian, right?" She fiddles with the tassels on her scarf. "Are you... mad at me or something?"

Ran doesn't really hate you personally, Iris. He just hates everyone. The only person he even tolerates is Molly, and that's because he has to. Also, he can appreciate her mercurial nature, and he knows she likes to fuck around with Iris... in more than one way.

He leans against the wall, arms crossed over his chest as he contemplates her question. Is he mad at her?

Might as well be honest.

"How much do you know about the Guardian-Ward relationship?" he asks, raising an eyebrow. "You know I can feel what she does, right?" He's really hoping not, because he wants to be the one to break the news to her that he can feel it when they're having fun together.

Iris thinks about that for a moment. "Feel what she does." She's not sure what he means by that. "Well, yeah, I do know that. I'm a Guardian myself, too."

Which may be news to Ran, and to be honest, she's more than a little embarrassed that she said it. He's a real angel, and he'll know. But it is the truth.

She rubs her hands through her hair a little, shaking a small clump of snow out onto Molly's carpet. "But what's that got to do with whether you like me or not?"

He rolls his eyes, and sits down on Molly's bed, toeing off his slippers. He kicks his legs back and forth for a moment, childlike, before looking up at her with golden eyes.

"I can feel it when you're fucking around," he says with a slight grin, stilling his feet. "Like an echo. That's part of the joy of being a Guardian... didn't you know that?"

He pauses, relishing the moment for just a second. "And I'm not much into fucking, even the voyeuristic kind."

Iris' cheeks slowly turn a colour other than blue. The rest of her is still pretty blue, so it doesn't really help. She is, however, embarrassed out of her mind.

"I--" I knew that, she wants to say, because technically she did. She'd just-- never thought of it that way. What Molly's Guardian would feel, when she was with Molly. She should have thought about it. Now she just feels awkward.

And a touch possessive, as he sits down on her girlfriend's bed. She sits herself down next to him, a fair distance away, just so he knows it's not about trying to get close to him. Just-- she feels uncomfortable, about Molly having a Guardian. She doesn't begrudge her the protection, or anything; she just wishes she was the only person that close to her. That she could be that close to her.

"...I'm really sorry," she says eventually. "That must be awkward for you."

She's not sure why he's smiling, though, if that's the case.

If it makes Iris feel any better, Ran's not exactly jumping for joy either. He dislikes the idea of sex, especially since he's probably seen every bodily fluid imaginable. He also doesn't like it because it makes people stupid, and Ran knows he makes enough stupid decisions already.

There's also the added problem of intimacy, and that creeps him out. Being all emotionally connected makes him a little sick to his stomach.

He supposes some people need it.

"It is," he says with a deep sigh. He's a little smug now, because he's made her uncomfortable. That's why he's smiling, not because of the whole sex thing. That part just makes him twitchy. "I don't suppose you'd cut it out? I hear celibacy is very in this year... like Ugg boots."

Iris stares at him blankly. She likes intimacy, and she might possibly think emotional connection is the best thing since sliced bread. Or possibly pre-sliced bread. Especially when it involves... you know, her girlfriend, and all.

"Are you... saying I should stop sleeping with Molly?"

She doesn't sound particularly pissed off by this, or particularly sad, or really particularly anything at all. She's just confused.

He nods his head vigorously, dark hair falling into his eyes. He's never enthusiastic about anything except food and video games, but he can be excited about this. If he can convince Iris to stop fucking around with Molly, then his life will actually suck just a little less.

Yeah, it's selfish, but he's no saint either.

"Fuck you." He leans back on the bed, arms under his head, legs hanging off, toes touching the floor. It's a relaxed position, but he's never relaxed, not really. Guardians can't really afford to be. "It's awkward."

"...But she's my girlfriend," she says, as if it weren't obvious. Now she genuinely does sound a little pouty. "And I want to sleep with her. I mean, that's... kinda like telling me to break up with her."

Which, to be honest, the narration would hardly put past Ran. But Iris is just... still bewildered.

He wants to respond sarcastically that he knows Molly is her girlfriend, but he's trying to convince her to make his life easier, so he figures sarcasm is probably counter-productive. He needs to be polite to her... or as polite as he's capable of being, which isn't very.

"That would be all right too," he says with a nod of his head. "Because I have to fucking protect her, and it's hard to do when I'm going out of my mind with revulsion."

Why yes, he is proud of using that word. Ran's not exactly a thesaurus normally.
