walk into the jaws of hell

Matoi is standing, staring at something that is not Owen. She knows the Kashtta inside and out -- it's important for her own sanity. Well, it's at least important to her expression of love. This elevator shouldn't exist.

"As if this place wasn't a big enough copyright violation," she says, holding a letter in her hand and opening it slowly, thinking while she does so. "Well, at least this might be a nice plot twist, even if it's not original."

Also in the Kashtta, Sailor Mercury makes her way down to the block now designated for prisoners. Captain Harkness has made it clear that she needs to make sure the integrity of the cells is maintained. And as she's taken over computer and information technologies, it seems that's her job indeed.

She's been avoiding that job, though. It's not like she can tell Jack why she's uncomfortable with the situation. He doesn't need to know what the man did to her. It's irrelevant in the scheme of things. Jacks know what he's done. Who he did it to is just excess information that will distract from their work.

So as she goes up to the cell, she inserts her data stick, starting to assess the situation. There's no need to pretend that anything's wrong here. She's perfectly fine.

Unfortunately for everyone in the area around the Organization, Kat's had a little bit of crazy again. Well, she's always had a bit of crazy, but usually said crazy doesn't involve the fire department. Kat doesn't blow things up that she doesn't mean to blow up. There wasn't a lot of damage. There really wasn't any fire -- the smoke detectors of the building next door just went off after Kat's filtration system got borked and --

Yeah. Kat's currently flailing at a firefighter, telling her that there really is no fire and they should just all go home, and there's no need to search her lab or test her lab's smoke detection equipment. People aren't usually this flaily at someone with an axe, but there's no way in hell she can let someone into her lab. Besides the whole, 'it might kill them' part, the O doesn't need strangers inside. Ever.

The last time he was in Chicago, he spent a moment at Navy Pier, having a conversation he didn't entirely understand. Francis Barnam returns to the pier a changed man, staring off at bright lights, ferris wheels reeling, and the sound of laughing children in the background. It's been a long hundred years, and yet the world has stayed the same. He doesn't understand. He doesn't understand how things can be this simple, how people can act this way.

"The world is too much with us," he says, throwing a rock into the water, wishing it made a louder splash. "Too much indeed."

[ OOC note: LJ notifs are down, and my mind is mostly in novel-land right now. If you could IM me @ anartificialend if you tag, it would be much appreciated. ]
