The Post Where Everyone Gets Dirty

Feb 23, 2010 23:13

John Casey got into a fight with a flying beast, which escaped into the sky. It left Casey tripping into the fountain. When he pulled himself out of the water, some man made the mistake of commenting on how hot Casey's 'jugs' looked in that wet shirt. Now Casey has his foot shoved in the man's back and his arm twisted back behind him. It's broken ( Read more... )

Kaden and Jessi are heading toward their class -- the one that she takes and he teaches -- when the fire elemental screams past them. He had been on the phone. He's still technically on the phone, but now his father's talking to deaf ears because he's too busy watching the woman run down the street. Not that he wasn't already talking to half-deaf ears; Kaden hardly ever pays attention to what his father's actually saying when they talk on the phone ( ... )

She doesn't like the fact that Kaden obviously knows this girl. Jessi doesn't like it one bit. That-- no. Kaden has been proving himself. He's been doing better. But still.

She doesn't need to see someone else get hurt. Unlike Kaden, however, Jessi doesn't mind getting her hands dirty to help someone else. Yes. She followed. It's easier just to follow half the time, and they're going the same place anyway.

"Need a change of clothes?" Jessi asks, giving Elizabeth a small smile. "If I could offer you a shower as well, I would, but I don't keep those in my car."

She'll ignore Kaden's familiarity with the girl. She can't think about it too hard. Thinking about it too hard only causes her to ask questions she'd rather not in the first place.

Elizabeth looks up at him at the sound of his voice and smiles. The smile says Yep, I'm dumb. It's a smile that she uses often.

"...I was trying to hide, but I guess I probably could have hidden on the other side of the dumpster, instead of inside of it." But if she had, she wouldn't be Elizabeth. Plus, with her luck, the woman would have actually come down this alleyway had she been outside of the dumpster. Her smile brightens when he takes the container off. "Thanks, Mr. BAMF! I... really don't know how this stuff happens to me all the time but it does. At least I'm not fighting handcuffs this time!" They are her mortal enemies after all, and she'd be in a rather frustrated mood if that were the case ( ... )

Kaden laughs at the explanation. "At least it's not handcuffs, you're right," he agrees. "Being handcuffed and covered in garbage is a bit worse than handcuffed and in a bright orange jumpsuit. Plus, then I'd have to wonder who threw you into the dumpster in the first place, because there's got to have been a story behind that. But you're welcome."

Yep, Lily's followed. The smile drops off his face and he checks his watch quickly -- okay, so they have plenty of time before class starts, even if he did want to spend some time getting everything set up properly. There's even plenty of time for that. "Well, if we can get to your car and back to the building in time..." he says to Lily. "You could technically skip, but I can't walk out on a class I'm teaching." Not that he would let her skip out on class, especially not this one, but that's beside the point ( ... )

Skip class? Kaden's kidding right? How does one skip class? This concept is alien to Jessi. Skipping class. Skipping class ( ... )

Elizabeth is laughing, too. She presses her lips together, still smiling. "There's a story about every ridiculous situation that I've ever gotten myself into. I think that the story about getting thrown into a trash can, handcuffed would probably be more interesting and crazy."

She does not understand people being weirded out by the idea of skipping class. But she's skipped so many classes in her time, especially over the last couple of years.

"I promise to make enough time. We'll walk quickly. I'm fast. We're all fast, being angelic and all," Elizabeth says, still smiling as she starts out of the alleyway. She does stop at the edge of it and looks both ways to be sure the fire elemental hasn't backtracked. "Being properly introduced later sounds like a good idea! I wouldn't want to get disgusting on you, kinda a bad first impression!"

Elizabeth hasn't forgotten about the tutoring either. She has her electronic planner now, after all! It's come in very useful. Luckily, the man isn't dying for another couple of days. She didn't ( ... )

Kaden reaches out and messes Lily's hair, briefly. It's not a real mess, but then, he's still testing out how familiar he can be and get away with it without sending off alarm bells in his sister. Ones he hasn't already set off, that is, just by existing. "I was kidding," he says at her look. "You didn't think I'd actually let you, did you ( ... )

Jessi does an odd, jerky jump away from his hand, an alien expression flickering across her face for a moment. But she manages to suppress it. And besides, considering such a mess she's been lately, Kaden has no right to mess up her hair further.

"Oh yes, Kaden knows plenty about handcuffs," she says after a moment. Her tone is completely genial, but she knows that Kaden will know what she's talking about. Not that he used handcuffs often. He had to stop, considering. Jessi herself got quite good at getting out of them. She lets out a soft laugh, making it go over that much smoother ( ... )

Elizabeth misses the entire exchange that the brother and sister share. She'd already started toward the end of the alleyway, and she's... just not perceptive. It's not likely she'd pick up on anything, even if she'd been watching them both.

"Oh, I don't think that my ridiculous stories count as me being in BAMF levels. They kinda show how I get myself into crazy, stupid situations that no one else ever does. I'm just a klutzy person that... like gets all muddled up with stuff that she shouldn't or that no one should, and bam. Somehow make it out of it again, usually with help," she explains, rambling away, completely oblivious ( ... )

All Kaden had done when Lily jumped away was smile his usual smile, genial edge an all, and gone on his way. So that familiarity isn't quite up to par yet. Good to know. The better to ignore it when he needs to.

Now, though, he's slowing down a bit so he can fall into step with his sister and Elizabeth. He's already established that he's leading them, so there's no need to be unable to talk while they walk to the cars. "Yeah, it's kind of crazy," he agrees. "Though we don't have quite the familiarity you might expect." Comes from not having seen each other for five years.

"We actually fought a lot as kids," Jessi says, giving Elizabeth a raw smile. She pauses next to her car. It's not the sedan; the sedan is back at the house. It's very annoying driving the suburban everywhere. Even if it was converted a while back to run on hydrogen, she still feels like she looks like a jerk driving it around with just her and Justin.

Well, she'd planned to fill it up eventually.

She pops open the back and pulls out two plastic tubs, popping the tops off. "Have at," she says. "Not sure if much in there will fit you, but I'm sure it'll be better than what you've got on now."

"Oh! I don't have any siblings so I wouldn't know about that stuff, I guess," Elizabeth admits, curling a strand of hair around her finger. She always did wonder what it would be like to have one. It might have made running around the house and getting into crazy shenanigans more fun. "But you see it on the TV a lot. Brothers and sisters fighting. So yeah, I guess it makes sense, doesn't it?"

She smiles gratefully at Jessi when she opens the back of her car with the two plastic tubs.

"Thank you!"

It takes some serious searching. Elizabeth is tiny in comparison to most, but she's not nearly as short as Jessi it is. Eventually, she pulls out a shirt and pants that will work from the tubs. She scrambles back out of the car.

"Seriously. You don't know how much this means to me. Thank you. I'll... go find a bathroom so I can put these on. I should let you two get to your class... anyway. I don't want to make you late. I'd feel bad. Oh, and I can get these cleaned and back to your brother at a tutoring... session!"
