Phoebe is coming from the opposite direction and slows down when she recognizes Danny. She'd be ready for the usual exchange that ends up with her running away calling him a jerk, except he doesn't really look up for it. He looks... she can't really find the word for it.

She's surprised to find she's kind of, sort of, maybe a little concerned.

A little.

"Dude... are you okay?"

Danny does not really want to talk to anyone especially not anyone he knows, especially not Phoebe. Yes, he knows her name. Almost all of his tough guy, ass hole has been stripped away but he can't quite manage to be truthful about that question.

He looks up at her and shrugs his shoulders.

"Yeah," he says and then winces when it's not true.

He locks his jaw and shakes his head, glancing at the blood on him. "Just fucked up."

Usually it doesn't bother him when he fucks up. Usually a little girl doesn't end up dead for his mistakes. Fuck, usually he doesn't make mistakes when he's fighting.

She's surprised he says something other than go bark up another tree, shorty. Especially when it's...well, he looks sad. And she feels bad about it.

This is awkward. And bizarre. And awkward.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Phoebe offers and then winces because duh, Phoebe, why would he want to talk about it with you?

She plays with her hands awkwardly. "Or...do you wanna be left alone cause I can do that...too."

Lamely, she lifts up a bag of candy. "I've got Twizzlers?"

Danny doesn't want to talk about it with anyone, not just her, and he can't quite answer the question to either. Being alone hasn't been much better than this is right now with her so he just doesn't answer. He can't quite answer yet. Nobody gets in past those outside assholey, tough guy defenses and it's- He's having a hard time caring enough to put them up at the moment.

Except he does raise an eyebrow at her when she lifts the candy up and offers him one.

"You're not gonna use this as an excuse to tackle me in the elevator again, are ya?"

Rachel has seen many a strange thing the seven months she's lived in Chicago. Not all of them amusing, to be certain.

Robin holding a penguin while it squirms in his arms is one of them.

She's on her way to the Conrad and blinks at the sight she is greeted with. She will try her very best to bite the insides of her cheek to keep from laughing. "You're..." she can't even finish the sentence. Not only would she be stating the obvious but...penguin.

You're... "Robin Rice. Complete with penguin. Hi, pretty lady if I wasn't already taken, I'd say something flirtatious now but it is nice to meet you," Robin says with an almost charming, almost exasperated smile as he stretches her hand out to her to continue the charade.

He's a little annoyed with this penguin. He's a little annoyed that no one managed to find a cage for it. Honestly, he can't stay away from this hotel for more than a few hours without it all going to hell. He forgot how much he did for this place back when he had all the time in the world.

Still.

It's nice to feel needed by a rather large group of people because no one else is as good at doing what he does. Assist. Robin Rice, personal assistant extraordinaire. Or something.

Rachel takes his hand with unhidden amusement, using it to close what space she can between them to kiss his cheek in greeting. That...might ruin the charade a bit. "If I wasn't taken myself, I'm sure I'd find that a great shame. Never have I met a man before that comes with a penguin attached to the package."

She takes a step back because it is rather hard to forget there is an aquatic bird in between them. "Robin, I'd never seen this nurturing side of you before."

Yes, she's teasing. If the unmistakable grin was any indication.

"Do I want to know why you're carrying a penguin?" Rachel asks, peering down at it. It's...rather cute.

"It's a wonderful package if I do say so myself, and I do," Robin says still smiling that smile at her and holding on to her hand a little too long.

He would facepalm at her teasing if he wasn't trying to hold the penguin still and keep it from tumbling out of his arms. It's a delicate operation. Apparently he will ignore her instead of responding to the teasing.

"Honestly, Rachel, I'm not entirely sure why I'm carrying a penguin. Someone found it and then not knowing what to do with it decided I was the best man for the job. This is exactly how I ended up with a puppy but you can't keep a penguin so... I'm taking it to the zoo where it can have fun with other penguins and frolic and slide down ice or whatever it is penguins do."

Wes doesn't want to be in Chicago. The good thing is he won't be for long. He and Rachel have agreed to go on a trip and he's certain it will serve them well. He's still running last minute errands, making sure everything's set for whenever Rachel gives him the go-ahead...and he sees the man on his knees.

The...man he met over a month ago that was doing strange things to the building that kept appearing and disappearing. Wes can't recall his name at the moment, only knows he doesn't look too good. He's not the kind of person that can just keep on walking, much as he'd like to right now.

"Hey," he calls out, as non-threateningly as possible. He...tries not to look as big and imposing as he is. "You need some help there?"

"Huh? What? Hey, you look like my old college roommate. I think except that he was always clean shaven. Taught me what to do with my hair though- We've met before haven't we? Or maybe I made that up..."

No, he's too tired to create this giant, burly man with the beard out of nowhere. JD can't even think up- No. He doesn't do that. He doesn't need to do that.

"Uhm. Yeah, no. I'm okay. I just... I think I lost my mind and I'm trying to find it." It meant to come off as a joke but it's- it's anything but in the tone of voice that he's using. It's too close to the truth, and he laughs a few times and shakes his head.

"We've met before," Wes assures him. He'd been a grouchy smart ass that day and that's all Wes can remember of it--he wasn't in the best frame of mind to meet anyone.

"It was one time but we met. I'm Wes, in case you don't remember."

Wes hesitates, before reaching out to place a hand on JD's shoulder briefly. "How 'bout you try finding it on your feet, compadre?"

Maybe he can get him to sit down, gather his wits, figure out what's wrong.

So it wasn't something that JD was making up. Check off that one on the list of memories that are real.

"I'm... JD. In case you're equal with the not remembering. My head's in a fuzzy, cottony place so most of my memories aren't really accurate at the moment, I think. I'm sure I'd have remembered your name otherwise. I'm good at remembering names. I'm good with people like that."

Oh, there's a strong hand on his shoulder. He should pay attention to that. "Okay. I can... do that. I'm good with things on my feet, too." JD stands up. He can still do that. He's just exhausted in the mind and less so in the body. There's only a little wobbling. "Yeah. It should be... rolling around on the sidewalk... somewhere."

Maria hasn't seen Elizabeth... well, since the incident with Zoe's sister at the mall. Awkward. On the other hand, she'd liked Elizabeth, and while she doesn't immediately recognize the girl who just slipped and fell on her ass...

"Blimey, you okay?"

She's going to be pretty glad to have run into someone she likes.

Elizabeth doesn't realize that it's Maria at first either. She's wiping her hands off and making a disgruntled face and checking to make sure her bracelet hasn't chipped or anything.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Thanks for asking! Luckily, I'm kind of clumsy so I'm used to falling on my behind like all the time but ice is hard and cold. I'm starting to turn part icicle down here." She looks up to see who has stopped to ask and then her mouth slides into a grin when she recognizes her. "Maria! Hi! I haven't seen you in... ages! How are you? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year like so many weeks late but you know what they say! It's the thought that counts!"

She doesn't like to think about the incident at the mall so it's best to skirt around it.

"Elizabeth!" Maria may squeal a bit. And Elizabeth gets a hug. Because that's how Maria rolls. "Oh my god, it really has been forever! How've you been?"

Y'know, other than recovering from that traumatic mall mugging... thing.

Elizabeth hugs her back tightly. She's always happy to get a hug! She likes the way that Maria rolls.

"It has," she says and picks herself up off the ice. "I've been... I don't know it's kind of a long time to say how I've been over all of it but you know I've been good. Over all. There was the plagues and the I don't know everything. Chicago being Chicago. Same old, same old."

Elizabeth waves a hand as if to say Pfft!

She smiles at her. "How've you been?"

Johnny is here on the sort-of-recommendation of a certain narration. *shifty eyes, cough*

He doesn't recognize Elizabeth - he just sees a girl fall on the ice and hurries over.

"Ouch! Whoa! That looked like it hurt." There is a Johnny-hand reaching out to help her. And then he recognizes her. "Hey! You're the girl with -" He stops and lowers his voice. "The yellow wings, right? I'm sorry I don't remember your name, I was kinda ... freaked that day." And then he laughs, normal voice again. "Not that you noticed, right? Anyway, you okay?"

It was totally a recommendation.

Elizabeth looks up at him and smiles, reaching for his hand and laughing a little. "Yep, that's me," she says, wrinkling her nose and using his hand to help herself get to a stand. "I'm okay. I'm kind of a clumsy person so I fall down all the time. My bone back there by my patooty kind of smarks but I'm good other than that."

She sends him two thumbs up and that smile on her face slides into a bit of a helpless grin.

"I'm Elizabeth by the way. I don't remember if we even introduced ourselves to each other cause it was... all kind of complicated, and you had more important life-altering stuff going on."

Johnny, hauling her up as best he can, cannot help but laugh a little explosively. "You - your patooty?"

Then immediately he is ashamed. But still smiling a little 'cause he is collecting all kinds of new words that he loves.

He returns the thumbs-up. "Good. I'm glad you're okay. And yeah! Elizabeth. Okay. I - I think I got your name? Gawd, I don't even like remember, it was kind of ... yeah. Like you said."

Johnny is blushing hard. In retrospect, how he acted was like super embarrassing.

"So! I haven't seen you around the Conrad since then, I don't think? Do you not usually stay there?" And his brow gets furrowed. "Are you sure you're okay?"

He would ... offer to heal her but isn't quite sure how it works yet.

And has a good idea that if he had to touch her patooty to do so it would be all kinds of awkward.
