Shilo is curled up in the common room of the Conrad, flipping through a history book written in the looping handwriting of some angel of knowledge or other. She's doing her best to think about the book, instead of how much she misses home, or her dad, or even her stupid room. Because she doesn't. Really.
Martin is at the coffee shop, staring at his journal like he's thinking about setting it on fire. WITH HIS BRAIN. Hearing from someone who was practically a cousin to him is nice and all - hearing her whole crazy family's planning on visiting is really not. After a minute or two, he stands up and snaps his journal shut, tosses his half-full cup of coffee, and stalks out of the coffee shop. It was only a matter of time, but Christ. What Chicago really needed was another impending apocalypse.
At Grant Park, Toshiko is wandering in the more wooded part of the park, PDA in hand. Alright, it's not actually a PDA, but it looks enough like one to fool a casual observer. She's recording fluctuations in Rift energy, just for something to do with herself, and while she could do that from the Conrad's basement... Well, it's quieter out here in the park, if less secure. She can deal with that.
And there's a ferret trotting merrily down the street, like that's perfectly normal. Well, maybe in Chicago... The Doctor is heading from the Conrad to the Kashtta in hopes that he'll find someone there who will take pity on him and drive him to Martha's house. There's a schoolteacher somewhere who deserves a ferret to the face.
