The history books forgot about us and the Bible didn't mention us. Not even once.

If you were to ask why a somewhat weepy Rachel Dawes wound up in a bench across from a church after a long and emotionally exhausting day, she'd be hard-pressed to give you an answer. She simply doesn't believe in coincidence, so she takes the fact most of her recent conversations have revolved around faith seriously. She doesn't, after all, leave anything ignored.

Maybe it's as simple as faith leading somewhere reason can't follow. Not necessarily an ideal situation for someone that prides herself on being pragmatic.

Peter Petrelli didn't tell Rachel anything she hadn't already figured out. She will be able to block other people's emotions upon touching them. She can't do that without first building up a resistance to them. She can't build resistance without exposure. She may have gone a bit overboard on the exposure part for her first day, but that's Rachel Dawes for you.

She doesn't expect to find the answers in the wooden markings of the bench, or the angel statues that resemble nothing like the angels she has now met.

But she is expecting something. She just doesn't know what.

And waiting's never been her forte.
