Sylar's been dealing with losing most of his powers. After a very long series of experiments in his room, he's been able to narrow it down to three remaining-- telekinesis, regeneration, and electricity. And, of course, the first and original. The hunger. It never goes away, does it? The need to know. All he'd wanted was to know who his birth ( Read more... )

Keiko really wasn't expecting to get killed today... Then again, what college student really wakes up and thinks, "Okay, today I'm going to get my brain hacked into by a crazy wanderer." Yeah, because that's a thought that crosses everyone's mind.

She's just some random college kid, but even so, she's been a shapeshifter long enough that sometimes the animals she turns into get into her head. Right now, her personal favorite is twitching in the back of her mind. Run, run. Danger. Get out, get out.

She chooses to ignore it.

He can see it in the distance. There's the dark alleyway he's been looking for. He approaches without a sound, closer and closer until he's practically breathing down her neck. Then it's just a matter of a hand gesture, and Keiko is thrown into the alleyway by invisible telekinetic force. Sylar enters after her, the dumpster located there sliding in front of them to obscure the view of any passers-by.

A small smile creeps across his face. It's been so long. He'll have fun with this one.

"Today just isn't your day. Is that your true form, or someone you pretend to be?"

It's at that last moment that the animal inside her head is practically jumping around in a fit of panic. She freezes just a second before she's thrown into the alley and winces when she hits the concrete. Her arms are all scraped up and she feels like she might have cracked something, but that's not really the most significant of her worries.

"What are you talking about?" She says, rolling over a bit on her uninjured side so she can get a look at the man bearing down on her, her expression terrified.

"It's simple." With a flick of his wrist, Sylar lifts her off the ground, only to pin her against the wall. He steps closer, stroking her cheek with the back of his hand. "You've got something I want."

They're all more or less the same in the end. It's kind of disappointing, actually. He backs away from her, lifts his index finger, starts drawing the bloody line across her forehead, and waits for her to scream.

When she went to all those seminars about how many ways you can get yourself killed on the mean streets, somehow they forgot to cover that there'd be creepy, sketchy psychos with freakish mindpowers CUTTING OPEN YOUR HEAD.

And that's really all Keiko can think about before all of her thoughts are broken up by the pain and her own screaming.

They always had to scream, didn't they? So bothersome. Luckily, it was getting late and no one was close enough to hear it and investigate. With her scalp out of the way, he moves her now lifeless body back onto the ground, and kneels over her, hands running over her exposed brain. It was just a matter of finding-- yes, there it was. Done with her, he wiped his bloody hands off on his pants. It was time to try this out.

Only... this wasn't quite like powers he'd taken at home, was it? Maybe he should have kept her alive a little longer, to figure this out. But he focused on changing into something, anything and--

Shit. A rabbit wasn't what he had in mind. And as he tried to change back, it dawned on him that something was very, very wrong.

Ruvin was off getting some ingredients for dinner. She sees the rabbit, tiny and stark white against the pavement.

She holds a hand out toward it, then hesitates. A shapeshifter?

Quietly she says, "I wish I could speak to you like this. Like Daine."

And then her eyes stray over the blood spreading on the pavement. The body. She freezes. "Fa... R..."

She drops the groceries, scoops up the rabbit and runs.

Oh, hell no. He's not really in control of this form, so as Ruvin approaches he sniffs at her hand curiously. Then as she picks him up and starts to run off with him, he can feel himself starting to panic, his little rabbit heart beating rapidly in his chest. He struggles against her hold and tries to kick at her, but being so tiny, it doesn't make much of an impact.

She doesn't let go, just trying to put some distance between herself and that... that... There was a brain. She saw a brain, because that woman's head was open like one of the strange tin cans from the store, everything spilling out like one opened up and knocked carelessly onto the floor.

The Conrad, there was the Conrad. Someone in there would know what to do. Someone there could help.

Sylar is kind of freaking out right now, and who can blame him? This is translated in rabbit body language by appearing very skittish. He bites at Ruvin, still trying to escape. There was an upside to it all, he guesses. No one would associate the cute innocent-seeming rabbit with the dead girl. If only he could escape and figure out how to get back to normal.

She slows a little as she nears the Conrad, wincing when the rabbit bites her. Ruvin strokes Sylar gently, drying to calm him and herself at the same time.

"Hush, you're all right. Are you..." She drops her voice. "You're like us, correct? Like me? You'll be safe in the Conrad, I promise."

She hustles by a pair of staring men near the doors and breathes a sigh of relief once she's inside. The basement. Ruvin jams the button for the lift, keeping just enough of a grip on Sylar to keep him from getting away. She knows what it's like to be small and gripped by animal panic, and she's not going to let him run--that would be bad!

At least she took him to the Conrad-- at least, he thought it was the Conrad. He feels himself calming as she pets him, but he still wants to get away from her and change back. At her question, he perks up and gives a little head-bob that resembles a nod. Once inside the elevator, he tries to force her away with telekinesis or zap her, but... being a bunny, he has no such luck.

He's starting to wonder if there's a way to kill her to get her away from him somehow.

Ruvin cradles Sylarbunny in her arms, singing quietly to him in a language that sounds like it could be Chinese while she runs her fingers over his ears. This is a person, she reminds herself. The little (ADORABLE) headbob confirmed it. It doesn't matter if he's about the cutest thing on four legs she's seen in Chicago. It doesn't matter if she loves rabbits more than ANYTHING. This is a people and should be treated with dignity and--

She kisses the top of his head. "Don't worry. There's someone who can talk to us while we're People. Um. Animals. She calls them People."

If cute fluffy bunnies could give looks of disdain, Sylar would be giving her one now. Instead he just kind of twitches his nose at her. And wonders what in the world she's talking about. Come to think of it, this situation might be difficult to explain to someone who could communicate with him. 'I steal powers; I just killed some girl today to get this one and I haven't quite figured out how to control it yet'? Yeah, that would go over well.

Dear lord, she actually kissed him. He'd like to bite her, but bunny instinct wins over and he ends up nuzzling her instead.

Daine is in the common room, reading a book. She's trying to catch up on what in the world is going on with this universe, but... well, it's hard to figure out what quite a lot of the words... ARE.

She would WELCOME a distraction, which comes in the form of feeling someone like Ruvin (People but not-People) coming down the... elevation box.

So when the doors open, she's at the doorway to the lobby, looking hopeful. Please, oh please let this be something interesting. Or for her to help with.

Oh sweet relief. Ruvin shudders and steps out of the elevator, touching Daine's arm nervously.

"Thank goodness... There's a person, a dead person, their head--" She shakes her own and shudders again. "He was next to her."

Ruvin looks down at the rabbit and strokes his ears with her thumb. "I don't know what happened, but I think it scared him into this shape."
