The last time the Doctor was in the hotel, he almost got thrown through the Rift. But it's been a while, he's got things to do, and he's not particularly in the mood to be chased away by Romana Angelos. This is not a happy Doctor ( Read more... )

Luckily for Gwen, Ianto hasn't gone mad and is still making coffee for the team. Or else whomever is left might be going mad without it.

He has a file tucked under his arm and two cups of coffee in his hands. Backing the door open, he slips inside and sets one of the cups down in front of her.

"I saw you here earlier and figured you might like a bit of company?" He gives her a small smile and settles into a chair near her.

Gwen doesn't actually turn around - she's gotten used to the sound of Ianto's footsteps, and isn't at all surprised when he sets the coffee down. "Thank you," she murmurs quietly, picking up the coffee cup, taking a drink, setting it down safely out of reach, and then leaning forward so her head thumps onto the desk. She's fine, really. Just frustrated.

While Ianto might know vaguely that Gwen is okay, he still reaches a hand to touch her arm lightly.

"Gwen?" He looks to her, "Perhaps you should take a break from the CCTVs for now? Just for a few minutes, anyway."

Torchwood could drive someone crazy on occasion.

She sighs and pushes herself back from the table, shaking her head. "I'm fine. I'm just... I've been at this all day, and I'm still not seeing anything out of the ordinary."

And after Tosh, she's starting to think it might just be something in everyone's heads.

"Take a break, Gwen."

Sure, it's an important task, but more often than not if you don't look at something for a few minutes and go back? Things that weren't there before can often make themselves obvious.

"I could look while you rest, if you'd like?" Or even if just looked and she, well, didn't.

Gwen sighs and shakes her head a little, though she turns away from the monitors, grabbing her coffee again as she does. "It's fine. Maybe it's just that I can't see it." Whatever it is that's got everyone else twitching at shadows. She gestures vaguely to the screen. "If you want to look..."

Ianto tenses a little as she mentions the shadows, because there have definitely been some odd things occurring lately. He moves to look at the CCTVs, but he knows, oddly enough, that nothing will show up on the screens.

"You haven't noticed?" He asks, taking a sip of his coffe as he turns through some more footage, "I'm not sure they'll show here."

It's his vague admittance. He's seen them, too.

"Probably not, but I can't see anything anyway. Not a shadow, not a whisper, not one single thing." It's infuriating, really, when everyone else is seeing things. Not that she much enjoyed her one encounter with ghosts... not that that's exactly what they were.

Herself, standing there with a knife in bloodied hands, telling herself she couldn't stop him. Another memory uncurls, at the thought of ghosts, standing in an empty hospital room while a man on crutches comes toward her, limping on just the one leg, passes by her, unseeing...

Gwen shudders a little and tries to shake it off. She's starting to think it best if she ignores those memories - they're not real anyway, they never happened to her...

"It's hard to detect a source, too, as they seem to just appear at their own will."

He winces at his phrasing, because considering that those things were even some semblance of a life form? Not pleasant.

He frowns a little when Gwen shudders. This building had everyone on edge and worried.

"Nothing came up on police reports," he says carefully, trying to change the conversation. Talk of ghosts and Kashtta Tower creepies were just getting them no where.

She decides not to comment any further on the ghosts, unless Ianto happens to see one wander through the room just now. Police reports are much easier to deal with. "Nothing at all?" Not that she hadn't expected that, really, the way things are going. "I worried about that. Thank you for looking, anyway."

There's a pause, as she drums her fingers restlessly against the side of her coffee mug, and then she adds, "John Hart's loose. I don't know if you saw..."

Ianto wasn't expecting that. At all.

Because he hadn't seen or heard. He knows he probably should have, but with research and the oddly creepy things that have been happening recently? Well, he wasn't exactly looking for something like that. He assumed Hart was locked away well and good.

He tenses considerably, even though he's trying not to show it on his face or in his voice.

"I hadn't." He watches the CCTV screens like a hawk, "How?"

"I don't know. All Sergeant Angel said on the journals was that he got out." One more thing to worry about, because she has a feeling Hart won't just be able to stay away from them. He wasn't when he first got here, and he'll be even less likely to now that they arranged to have him locked away for two months. "So I guess we'll just have to keep an eye out. Maybe start working out code words to make sure we're all really... us."

Ianto does not like the idea of Hart running around again at all. Not with his ability, oh no. He lifts a hand to massage the bridge of his nose briefly, as though warding off some nagging headache.

"That might be a good idea. The last thing we need is him infiltrating Torchwood."

It's only then that he remembers the flicker of a face, one he doesn't recognize, but one he should. The fellow seemed part of the team, anyway. There's a name with it, in his memory, somewhere. But he can't quite place it. It gives him a chill so he just turns his chair, looking away from the CCTV.
They were all here. It was impossible.

"Well," Gwen says with a somewhat forced smile, "at least we know the security systems work." To the point of locking them inside with the power of Tosh's brain, sure, but... well. They've got to look for the bright points where they can find them. That's Torchwood for you.
