It ain't easy growing up in World War III

There's an archangel in the training room at the Conrad, viciously assaulting a punching bag. She was so proud when Romana brought her along. Just nineteen, and Romana thinks she's good enough to come clean up Chicago, and she'd never been so happy.

And then things went wrong, somehow, and Romana... Romana freaked out. Romana's never freaked out around her, not like that, and yeah, she's gotta admire Vincent for taking her down so she could get calm and not kill anyone, because... Because that's just fucked up.

Maybe, Elena thinks, giving the bag another punch, carefully controlled to stop just short of seriously damaging it, maybe she's just not hard enough. And before now she'd have said that wasn't possible, but after seeing Romana like that was a big clue that there's a whole new level of hard that she's never even touched.

She never knew Tay, but to just let her die like that?

But Romana's gotta be right. Gotta be. Romana took care of her, taught her how to do all this "angel" stuff right. And demons fuck people over. Maybe it would be better for Tay to be dead. Maybe he'd... do stuff to her. Mess with her head at least, maybe worse. And you can't hurt your own ward, right? She doesn't know much about how guardian angels work, but she thinks that's a rule or something.

She's barely conscious of the steady stream of Spanish curses coming out of her as she pummels the bag. She's sweat-soaked and she's confused and she's pissed, because Elena Guerrero has never taken confusion well at the best of times. This whole thing's got her feeling like she's in over her head, and the way people are looking at her now... Not Romana's crew, but everyone else. Like she's some kind of baby-killer, just for being on Romana's side.

The sooner they take this demon down and get out of here, the happier she'll be. And thanks to all this shit lately, all she's doing is sitting on her ass, bored. And when she's not bored, she's thinking too much about shit that's not even her business.

She'd appreciate a distraction. Any distraction at all.
