Writer's Block: Lost & Found

Apr 08, 2008 10:47

When I was moving to New York I decided to mail myself some stuff that I knew I'd want right away.  So I mailed a box with a case of DVD's, two pillows, and my Cabbage Patch doll named Jackie. Whether it was Canada Post or the US postal service I don't know, but someone decided that they wanted my DVD's. So they broke into my box and stole them, and I'm assuming Jackie. Or worse, she fell out of the box and ended up in the vast lost and found vaults of the US mail.....I loved that doll so much. I got her when I was very young, I think 1 or 2 years old. I was extremely emotionally attached to Jackie and she was the only doll I insisted on keeping. When the box arrived and it was empty except for one pillow I broke down and laid on the floor crying hysterically for hours. For days after I would well up just at the thought.  But after talking with David about it I decided that it was a trade. I traded my favorite childhood toy for a husband who I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. David is far more important than any doll, so I was comforted. It doesn't sting the same way, but it still hurts when I think about it.
