aka, white collar 1x07 reaction post.

okay, so like gypsy_sunday said, THIS SHIT JUST GOT REAL. i'm about to sit down and watch this again (thank god for DVR) so i can fully process some more of it, but seriously-- laulan and i were chatting while we watched, and i think i can speak for both of us when i say that the level of keysmashing, handflapping, actual-out-loud gasping and flailing was UNPRECEDENTED on both sides.

first of all-- fowler. i would have liked to see him and/or his department introduced earlier to give a better setup, but bearing in mind this is technically only midseason i think it's a good pace to bring in someone of dubious/confusing alignment. i thought he was obnoxious and very like a stereotypical fed, which is good, and i found him and peter facing off awesome and god peter's hot when he's possessive.

now, basically i'm only now 12 hours later coming to the conclusion that him (fowler) setting neal up was an elaborate ploy to draw out peter's involvement in WHATEVER THAT IS AND OH GOD I'LL GET TO THAT LATER. which is interesting because a) it compromises my sense of almost EVERYONE'S morality/side-choosing/whatever and b) makes me think i'm as big a conspiracy theorist as mozzie (♥) because i'm wondering how far and how high up this-- again, whatever "this" is-- goes. more on this below.

second-- okay if there's anybody out there who wasn't shipping neal/peter at least a little bit, after this episode I HOPE YOUR MINDS ARE MADE UP. the number of significant/heated looks those two volley back and forth over the course of an episode (ANY episode, but this one especially) is RIDICULOUS. and the banter! "well, only if you're you." "it means we're hanging out too much." "happens to the best of us." aslfkjsdk. i love smart snark, and for shizzle, this show hits the bar and raises it like every fucking week. and okay, laulan points this out all the time and i am so on board, but so much of this show is about getting the two of them to trust each other, and i fucking loved the scene after they leave the other thief's apt. where peter asks him point blank if he did it and neal is clearly hurt and upset about it-- it leads in so well to the scene later (WHERE PETER IS HIDING HIM FROM THE FUCKING FBI, AFJKSLDK) where he comes clean about trying to find kate and all that-- it's just like, this is the thing that's solidifying their bond (lol and peter thought elle was overselling it, PSSH) and the fact that they're on the same side. WHICH JUST MADE THE LAST NINETY SECONDS OF THE EPISODE MURDER ME MORE.

and okay, bear with me while i scream like a crazed fangirl-- HE JUMPED OUT A FUCKING WINDOW. and the goddamn SMIRK on peter's face when he saw him-- and when he comes home AND ELLE FUCKING HID HIM IN THEIR HOUSE the first thing he says is essentially "why did you jump out of a window you crazy fucker you could've died!" and okay, yeah, there will definitely be some deleted-scenes-of-neal-shacking-up-at-the-burkes'-house fic in my future. and lastly, i have one thing to say and one only : RUN WITH US, NOT FROM US. he might as well have sent him a fucking valentine shut up andy. and jesus fuck why is matt bomer so fucking attractive. that grey shirt/black tie combo at the beginning was delish, and aslfkjsdl idek, when he has like, v-neck shirts on or that part where he and peter were sitting on the couch and he had his sleeves rolled up-- WHY IS THIS MAN SO BEAUTIFUL. seriously (see the tag on the post lol) he is so gorgeous it's a little out of control. and i kind of hate that there is so much legitimately to love about this show yet i have to spend some of my flail on just how fucking hot he is, rofl!

but onward! third-- i fucking love mozzie. LOVE. HIM. if this ep hadn't made me flail so much about neal and peter i'd be using my mozzie icon right now. he is SO AWESOME. i love how bemused peter is by him, i fucking love his uptight paranoia and conspiracy theories, he's so FUNNY and dude, him as the lawyer, fucking PRICELESS. when i first started watching the show i thought i'd never see him as anyone but stanford blatch from SatC, but dude, i have been PWNED.

okay. fourth and finally-- re: the ending. WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. okay, no, seriously this is kind of breaking my heart a little bit. and NOT because of the disrupting-my-OTP thing (though it kind of does that a little, or definitely has the capacity to) but because it seriously could fuck with peter's character and THAT would not be on. like, we've seen peter in moments alone, away from neal-- he's NOT a bad guy. they wouldn't make him completely 100% all around likeable and then reverse tracks and reveal that he's been evil the whole time-- TV doesn't do that to its viewers very often, and certainly not 7 episodes into its first season. which means there MUST be a good reason he's involved with kate and hiding it from neal. WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY LIST OF POSSIBLE EXPLANATIONS.
-- peter and kate are both being blackmailed by someone higher up who wants the whatever-it-is that neal has and is using them both to get to neal.
-- kate is a pawn in some bigger game and peter is using her to find out who she works for / bag a bigger fish than her.
-- kate is evil and peter is holding her while he tries to find out what she really wants from neal and why.
-- i actually don't have coherent items for the rest of the list, it's basically just things i know to be true which are a) peter is not evil, b) he wouldn't keep kate away and lie to neal unless it was for a very, very good reason, and c) there is something going on here that concerns a person or persons we haven't met yet. like i knew they were going to give us a cliffhanger ending, but THIS IS SRS BSNSSSSSSSSSS. i can't even really process it all right now, it's still too much for me to handle. i'm going to rewatch it a few times over the weekend and might return here wtih more thoughts later... for now it's time for some soup. all this flailing has given me an appetite. XD

NOW WITH EXCITING NEW DEVELOPMENTS! so laulan introduced me to jeff eastin's twitter, on which he posted the following last night :

Don't assume anything you see is what it seems. (about 10 hours ago from web)

Clue: it was set up from the beginning. How does Peter find Neal in the pilot? (about 8 hours ago from web)

Peter has always known more than he let on, but he hasn't betrayed Neal. (about 8 hours ago from web)

WHICH AS ANDY THEN ELABORATED, MEANS (WE HOPE) THE FOLLOWING (quoting us) :

laulan: here's my theory
laulan: kate is evil; peter knew where to find her place (where he finds neal) because he was watching kate/she was on the watchlist.
laulan: THAT'S what he's been keeping from neal--that she's involved in shady business.
me: OMGGGGGGGGGG
laulan: now he's going to confront her about it
laulan: this is my theory.
me: OH JESUS FUCK YES THAT WOULD BE AMAZING
me: BECAUSE THEN HE'S STILL TRYING TO PROTECT NEAL
me: BOTH FROM DANGER AND FROM GETTING HIS HEART BROKEN
me: OH MY GOD
me: ASFJLSKFJSLAGJSHFKDJHS
laulan: THIS IS MY THEORY AND I AM FOND OF IT.

NOW GO ON AND TELL ME HOW FOND YOU ARE OF IT TOO. XDDDDDD

celebs: matt bomer compromises my gay, fandom: two mile radius, keysmashing capslock and flailing oh my!
