We are having the storm of the year out here tonight (lots of rain and wind; there's even prediction of snow) and tomorrow is the Boston Marathon. Normally they warn runners about overheating. This year they are warning them about hypothermia. Yikes.
On a more pleasant note...last weekend we did seedling starts indoors at our house. 5 different herbs, 23 different vegetables, 6 flowers to augment the new flower beds out front. The roommate reports they already sprouted (4 days after we started the seeds) and they are all doing well. Really looking forward to getting them in the ground!
This year's experiment is pumpkin that we will put back by the compost in a corner of the yard we don't normally do anything in. It should grow well there (the soil should be good) and will serve multiple purposes: keep the weeds down in that area as well as create a shady place for the cats to lounge.
Finally, I determined this last week what my thesis will be: Developing the curriculum for, and teaching, an Ensemble for Non-Majors class. Unfortunately my advisor is not being very flexible or understanding about helping me propose the class that I think is the ideal set-up for the subject matter (I only get 2 hours and 40 minutes in the classroom per week, no lab time - my ideal would be 4 hours class time and 2 hours lab per week - I asked, she said no); but I have to assume that she has some kind of administrative reason as well as her belief that the restricted time will be good for me (helping me stay precise and all that).
