Five Subjects Meme

Directions: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

jessalie_aranya gave me:

Sunrises
Hm, I'm not sure about this one, except that I've got a fabulous sunrise pic as one of my icons... I do like them. They're sort of a universal "reset", the signal that another chance is close at hand. I often wish I had a camera with me while I'm driving, to catch a sunrise or a sunset at exactly the right moment, but I never do, and by the time I get home, the moment has passed.

Gold dragons
I write for one of the golds in the Pern fanfic club we're both in, which I suppose is where this association comes from. I have a lot of fun with it, though I don't have as much time for DragonRiders as I once did.

God
I try to center my life around God--sometimes more successfully, sometimes less. I often feel less than successful in that regard. I don't often state my beliefs explicitly, but I'll do so here: I believe in the triune God, one being with three distinct aspects, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that sin has separated humans both from God and from one another, and that only through the actions of God the Son, punished once in payment for all of mankind's wrongs, can we be reconciled to Him. Salvation comes through faith alone; good works are the result of gratitude and obedience, not the means to earn salvation.

I believe a lot more things, but those stand at the root of everything I do.

Book reviews
I used to regularly update a blog with information about all the books I'd been reading. It was interesting and enlightening, and writing about my thoughts on various stories helped me identify elements that worked and ones that didn't. It helped me be a better reader and writer, I think. But I read so much that it's really hard to keep up with reviews if I actually keep up with everything else in my life, so it's on hiatus, as the very least.

Dogs
I love dogs. I love my dogs. I tend to blog about them. They're like my kids, or as close as we are likely to come for some time yet, so it seems only natural. I should mention that our first dog, whom I wrote about in 2005 and 2006, retired to my in-laws' property when Matt and I moved out to Colorado; the current pooch has been with us for about a year and a half now, and she's a cutie. Someday, I would like to have a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. I suspect, when we have a house and a fenced yard, that we will rather regularly have a rescued dog in the house. I'd love that.

There you have it. Anyone?
