1) Happy birthday to
robtengel!
I wish you happiness, health and a hassle-free move to Hall. Have fun on this special day! ♥
2) Torchwood.
Overall, I thought that it was really, really, really good. Like, all kinds of dark and intense and disturbing and action-filled. I loved it so much more than any previous season of Torchwood. The writing (save for a few things that I'll come back to), the acting, the sound editing (someone on my f-listed mentioned the first gunshot that killed Jack and yeah, I totally jumped when it happened!), the cinematography. All superb. Frobisher, Clement, Jack's family, Ianto's sister...they were all awesome. And Jack and Gwen and Rhys...they just made me fall in love with them all over again. I cried. I laughed. The whole thing about children made me sick to the stomach. So yes, I thought that it was a fantastic, gripping mini-season and allowed the show to live up to its "darker sci-fi/Doctor Who" billing.
But there were many things that got on my nerves. First, the glaring plotholes. I understand that they didn't want to involve the Doctor because this show is all about Torchwood---or what's left of it, but Martha is on her honeymoon and is therefore unavailable? You seriously expect to me to believe and that she wouldn't have interrupted her lovemaking with Hot Tom because, say, children all over the world were being possessed and taken by aliens? Also, Ianto's plotline. Him wanting to be a couple with Jack was all fuzzy-snarky-cutey, but really, did he have to die in such an unnecessary way (seriously, did Jack just expect to waltz in there and convince the 456 to retract their demands with a smile and a wink? What exactly could he threaten them with?) and then be revealed as an incredibly insecure who lied about his "master-tailor-father" past? But most of all, UGH FUCK YOU RTD FOR MAKING THIS SHOW IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTINUE. Don't you DARE make this show entirely about Gwen and Rhys and their yet unborn child. Even if Jack came back...THIS IS NOT TORCHWOOD. Torchwood is about a group of lovely and courageous people working solving alien problems in the Hub. ALL OF WHICH IS NOW DESTROYED. And if you convince Moffatt to undo all of this in an upcoming episode of DW....then I will personally come to your new shiny Hollywood abode and stab you with a sonic-screwdriver replica. UGH.
3) I need to see Harry Potter right now this instant. Everybody has had nothing but GREAT things to say about this movie....CANNOT WAIT!! In the meantime, I did go see Bruno instead. I liked it, even if the first half was much funnier and the second half dragged. I also thought that it did a much better job of satirizing the cult of celebrity than homophobia.
4) Hopefully the second job will soon be a reality. I went around the downtown shopping malls last week to give out CVs and sat for an interview with
Smartset on Tuesday. They said that they'd call me back yesterday or today, but I haven't received any calls so far. It is incredibly disappointing to know that I can't even manage to land a minimum-salary retail job in a place that has hired two new girls in the last 2 weeks. *sigh* I'll keep my fingers crossed...and keep looking.
5) Mom has initiated Project Home Upheaval. The boyfriend has been contributing a great deal, fixing the Internet and installing the blinds (white, imitation of wood finish) in my room. Next up: a bookcase for my room, repainting of front door, more curtains/blinds to be installed downstairs and throwing out things that we've kept around for years but never really used. *rolls up sleeves*
I hope that everybody's doing well. LJ's is somewhat quiet these days. *sends out hugs*
