The official "I am alive" post --

For the past couple months (read: about a couple years) I've been struggling with an unreliable laptop, internet connection, virus infested computer station etc. It got to the point of if no one was online I was waiting 40 minutes for my laptop to try and live so I could make some pointless post of "I went to the store today! DUR!" So I dropped the notion of ever getting online again.
...............

A lot of people have broken cars on cement blocks in their yards --

I have three dead laptops, one useless desktop... and now this new guy here, a spiffy little contraption from Staples (his name is Sidra, btw) who seems to be functioning.. but I'm at his command considering I've jumped from Window XP to Vista... uhm... Me no likee the Vista. Spent the past couple days trying to even learn to navigate to find what used to be called "My Computer" with all the handy specs and file folders.. uhm.. no longer exists on Vista. So many menus, submenus, permission pop-ups, blah blah blah... This guy's brains will have to be dealt with and downsized to perform to MY brain capabilities and understandings....

FOR INSTANCE FINAL NOTE:

When I signed up for Qwest internet a couple years back they wanted to know if I owned a desktop or a laptop because the internet CDs are different for either form. I got the laptop version. I called them today asking for the desktop version which they are sending but they said I should give it a whirl with the laptop version because some desktops now have the component that only the laptops had a couple years ago.

Okee dokey.

So I boot Sidra up. Only to realize there is no button to pop out his "5-in-1 optical drive dvd+/-RW/DVDR/CDRW/DVD/CD ROM" drive. Search around forever trying to figure out where I can command the thing through the OS to pop that stupid idiotic drive open. In the meantime I physically hooked up the modem in anticipation that I would eventually find out how to pop this drive open, install some components and then.. VRROOOMM! Internet.

Uh, yeah. CD drive is still closed. I have no idea how to open it. I got frustrated and eventually found the "Connect to the Internet" menu on Vista and clicked it out of desperation thinking it would either tell me to fuck off or want a CD and open the drive for me.

The message that popped up after I clicked:

Dude, dumbfuck, yer ALREADY CONNECTED to the internet. Screw you.

So I don't know if it automatically detected my Qwest modem (which is running fine, btw all systems go) or if by some magical power I am leaching from some wireless source at McDonald's or something down the street.

Point being... Uhm.. I'M the one that is supposed to have the brain. _I_ take care of the computer. IT doesn't take care of itself. WTF.

I'll write more after breakfast at 11.... if this computer doesn't decide I'm not worthy and explodes out of self pity.

But I'm back.
