Greetings to you, my lovelies. I'll try to update you on our day. We left our hotel this afternoon after sleeping in till almost noon, unbelievably, and didn't get back till 8 pm. Dad has gone off to "run" in the park and I have collapsed in front of the TV. After trying to watch French news of the Virginia tragedy for awhile I found the CNN station in English. No matter what the fucking language it is still obscene and unbelievable. The crazy thing is how close all the world feels in brotherhood when some horrible tragedy happens.
I have caught up on your LJs and wondered how strange it can be to be so far away and still feel so close. Of course Chrissy I cried when Iheard about the RA. It just totally makes me furious though, because to live in fear is to let the evil win. But really I hope you never have anything worse than underage drinking to deal with.
Katie Rose, it was so sweet to think of you working out at our house. I also walked up to Cottonwood last week and just loved the beautiful view. The computers were unplugged in case of thunderstorm so we wouldn't come back to fried components. So sorry.
David, I hope you pointed out to Charlie that economics has nothing to do with preserving trees. What I would pay to keep these glorious trees blooming?
That brings me to our day. We decided to get our tour of museums underway, starting with the Musee d'Orsay. This is an old train station turned into modern art museum. The impressionists: Monet, Van Gogh, Gaugin. There were wonderful details of these artists works that I've never seen before. For example, there were carvings Gaugin did on teak. So reminded me of The Moon and the Sixpence. It was just so much fun to see these beautiful art works.
I also had the most wonderful salad I've ever eaten in the museum cafe. Strange parts of my taste buds are returning. Sweet primarily. This salad had little tiny white raisins that were so delicate and sweet. There was also a fantastic terrace, six stories above the Seine, from there we could see all the way to Sacre Coeur.
We were ready to drop on our walk back to the hotel, but it is so lovely here, and we were so happy from our tour, that we decided to stop at a micro-brewery in our neighborhood. We were sitting next to a couple of young boys speaking in English and so I got talking to them and they were from Holland, though they had not a trace of accent. That was fun, but I worried that I did not have enough energy to come back out for dinner, so we found a pizza place, that you guys would have loved, and had a quick pizza dinner. Tonight we hope to get to bed earlier so we can get up early tomorrow.
We are having a ball. Starting to feel like we know our way around a bit. Life is a wonderful thing because there is so much to experience, to drink in, to enjoy, to learn from. And then there's the trees.
