Bones

So I stayed home last night and was validated in that decision when the stupid pager went off this morning. Not at 6 am, though.

So I have the house to myself for a while and I am wanting to move forward on several projects that have been WAY backburnered. I am cleaning bones today. These bones were saved for us by friends who hunt several years ago with the plan to eventually make a knucklebone set from real bone and use the shoulderblades to possibly make a set of tablets for weaving. I found a cool article talking about scapula found in a midden heap with squares cut out of them.

Also they've been taking up WAAAY too much freezer space in my and casseareal's freezers for WAAY too long. Try several cubic feet and years. I want to have room in my freezer for food, not raw materials.

So today I pulled out my notes on bone cleaning and started simmering. And discovered that all my pots are too small. Sheep are BIG. I wanted a canner anyway.
