Missouri to Arkansas to Tennessee yesterday . . .
Our route through Missouri yesterday took us past Mansfield, where the Laura Ingalls Wilder home and museum are. We stopped, of course, and squandered a couple of very pleasant hours, then pushed on through the Ozarks. We cut through a corner of Arkansas and reached Memphis in the early evening - a long day in hours but not in miles; we have two days left, so they’ll both be long days. Yesterday’s roads included some very twisty bits, and the days ahead will be on larger highways, so it’s doable. Also, neither of us regards Mississippi or Georgia or northern Florida as great places to linger.
Most of these posts have been shorter than I had hoped, with less detail about what we’ve seen and done. Although I’ve had my laptop in the car, I spend most of my non-driving hours talking to Missy or sleeping, so my vague notions of writing while in transit have come to nothing. So this journal, so far, has been more about “Hey, we’re safe” than “Ooo, pretty.”
Still, there’s been a lot of miles under those wheels, and I do have more to say about them. Once we’ve arrived, I shall probably go back and revisit the road, get the memories down while they’re fresh. After that, who knows? We’ll have reached our destination, but my journey’s barely started, as far as I’m concerned.
