Thanks for the mammaries.....

Yesterday morning, a younger girl applied tape to my nipples and arranged my breasts on a tray.  It was a helluva way to start the morning.

I am speaking, of course, about my first mammogram.  I was actually supposed to get my baseline done at 35 and had successfully put it off for two years.  Call it a late birthday gift to myself for the year, in a masochistic, yet obligatory way.

It was actually not as excruciating or traumatic as some of the stories I've heard.  It wasn't pleasant.  I wouldn't look forward to it, by any stretch of the imagination.  The squooshing part really isn't the worst of it - I found getting insanely intimate with the machine to be more painful.  You have to sort of embrace the top part of the machine and hug it to your chest so they can photograph the lymph tissues near your breastbone, I gather.  This means that you have sharp machine edges poking into you in addition to the breast mashing while you're holding an awkward pose and not breathing.  But it doesn't last very long.  And I didn't even have to take out my nipple ring.

Getting the tape off my nipples when I got dressed, on the other hand, was *not* fun.

In other news, I got a call back from the lady I interviewed with.  She said that she liked me, liked my resume, and wanted to put my name in for the higher position.  The position that I didn't apply for, because it requires a degree.  I was very flattered and excited.  Now I am waiting to hear...
