Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew fic: So Fair a House

So here is a thing that I finally finished!

It took FOREVER, but is very, very dear to me. ;__;

Two years ago I wrote a Hardy Boys fic for yuletide called Our Red Sea, in which I mercilessly killed off Fenton Hardy as a cheap plot device. Joe was the star, but it was the beginning of a glorious new relationship with his endearingly dysfunctional family. ( Read more... )

FUCK MY LIFE, BETH. JUST. FUCK MY LIFE.

There are so many reasons that this is literally the best piece of fan-work that I have ever read.
First of all, I want to see this on stage because you made everything weave together so perfectly.
The theme of the play is pretty depressing but you handled it in a way that wasn't simply angsting.

You got everyone so perfectly. (Oh god, your Frank. Your Frank.)
Your dialogue (I kept on giggling about how you paid such close attention to food during the story, such a Nancy Drew detail) was great. Everyone had amazing lines.

ALSO I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE WITH JUDY BOLTON'S BROTHER. (Did I tell you that I got my first Judy Bolton book as a Christmas present from my little brother??) UGH YOUR ATTENTION TO DETAIL SLAYS ME.

Basically, summed up: I hate you because your talent has made me unable to appreciate any other ff writer ever, basically.
NO, NO! NO, JUST KIDDING I LOVE YOU! KEEP WRITING!

Ugggghhh so many feelings!!
Now I need to go and find my own bundle of Fenton/Carson love-letters as they are placed so tenderly in my keepsakes box.

UGH BETHHHHHH.

;___; <33333 Thank you! I'm so glad I FINALLY finished this thing. And that you liked it! :,D So much joy!

Oh man, so how big of an asshole is Frank. (SIDE NOTE: I totally just typed his name in all caps script format.) Seriously though. How do Joe and Nancy even put up with him? (I love Frank.)

ALSO, NEW PERSONAL CANON: Joe and Horace meet again several months later at some random NY society event thing. Horace is a bigshot report for The Times and Joe is, well, Joe Hardy, and they're like, "Omg! How are are you! Wow! It's been so long!" and Joe feels like MAYBE, POSSIBLY Horace is flirting with him but he's not really sure, and then Frank and Nancy and some other people go back to Joe's place after the party for more alcoholic beverages and Joe still isn't sure if Horace is interested or if he's even gay (spoiler: he so is) and Frank totally overstays his welcome and is like this all night: >:| And then there is angst and drama but eventually Joe and Horace enter a serious relationship and move in together and more drama ensues because Frank is all, "NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING. STAY IN THE CLOSET, YOU WILL RUIN EVERYTHING." But whatever, Frank. They can be "roommates", calm down. ALSO maybe Nancy accidentally gets pregnant, I haven't decided yet. And Frank is all, "NOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOO All right, no big deal, we just have to get married now." And Nancy's like, "Fuck you." And Joe and Horace are just like, "Yay! Gay uncles!"

MAYBE?

Also, you should for sure read Judy Bolton #1 because when I read it I actually thought that Horace was meant to be gay. His nickname at the office is Sister, his grandmother compares him to a girl on more than one occasion, Judy calls him a sissy...the list goes on and on. He stops acting like such a pansy in later volumes and eventually has a female love interest, but I just assume that she breaks off their engagement at some point like, "Horace, I don't think you want to marry me." And he's like, "Of course I do! I love you!" And she's just like, "Oh, I didn't say you didn't love me. But Horace, dear. I think you're a homosexual." And they're real cool about it and stay friends. :)

WHAT AM I EVEN TALKING ABOUT?

Thank you so much for reading my play, and I'm sorry for teasing you for LITERALLY A YEAR.

Fenton/Carson forever. Best fandom in the universe. ♥
