Day 15: 25% Of The Way There!

Aug 18, 2011 02:48

Weird as it seems, I'm 1/4 of the way to my goal!

Today, I did the .44 mile route - building back up to the .73 mile route.

It was definitely getting to be dusk when we left - one thing that walking every evening is showing me is how quickly the days are getting shorter.  It could be spring or fall all year round as far as I'm concerned - I am so not a winter person!  Before too much longer, Manny and I will have to take our walk before chryssalys comes home.

There were 3 or 4 robins in the yard across the street, but no bunny.  However, as we headed down the street, there was a bunny in the yard where I saw the robins on the broken tree limb several weeks ago.  As we approached, it hunched down tight to the ground, as if to hide from us.  Which would have worked in our yard, which still hasn't been cut in spite of a phone call to our guy, but was simply cute in a lawn worshipper's yard.

There was an event going on at the high school stadium - they were introducing the color guard, cheerleaders and sports teams.  You can hear the loudspeaker at our house, but you can't always tell what they're saying.  Once we got to the park, I could hear every word.  Manny was acting like he'd never been to the park before - sniffing everything, looking left and right, dragging behind....

As we came around the municipal building, there was a couple and their puppy getting ready to get into the car.  Manny spotted the puppy, and the puppy spotted him, and we had a bit of socialization!  Their puppy, whose name I forget, was 5 months old, and already bigger than Manny.  I asked what breed, and was told that she was a rescue, and the rescue wasn't sure what breed but they thought there might be some Great Dane in her.  Have I mentioned that we have two Great Danes?  I looked at her feet and thought "Nope.  No Great Dane in there.  Feet aren't big enough."  Then I looked a little more closely at her face and realized that she's at least part pit bull.  Now, is that a problem for me?  Not at all.  I've met many pit bulls, and haven't had a problem with any of them.  Did I mention it to the couple?  Nope.  I have no idea how they would react to the news that their dog is at least part pit bull.  They obviously love her, she's friendly and well-mannered, and they're working with her - she's already learning to sit.  I saw no point in risking the dog's happy home.

We continued on our way home, and met the lady who had been taking her husband's motorized wheelchair inside a couple of weeks ago.  And then Manny got weird.  She didn't have a dog, so he tucked his tail and tried to hang back.  Well, I wasn't having that, so I made him move up to her so she could pet him.  After a couple of minutes, he at least untucked his tail a bit and stopped trying to pull away.  I took it as a win, but obviously we need to do a bit more work on socialization.  Too bad pets aren't allowed at the county fair - I'd take him this weekend.

We said goodbye, and continued on home.  There was a rabbit in the yard across the street - apparently we were outside his danger zone, because he stayed where he was.

I'm still sore and achy, I think from cleaning the stove yesterday.  Or maybe from the rain that's supposed to come tomorrow.  Either way, I'm glad I walked.
