Yesterday was my admissions interview at the Spa Tech Institute, the school where I want to study massage therapy. My dad's Buick stalled out on me as soon as I crossed the town line, so I had to go back and borrow the Blazer. I still made it to the interview with minutes to spare. I like to be early, in case of such an emergency.
Amy, the career advisor, was very nice. She seemed to think I'd be a great candidate for the program. I told her about my living situation, my job, and what I'd like to do in the future. She gave me the tour of the building -- it was one of their clinic days, so the classrooms were divided by curtains into private areas. They have a very large break area with plenty of seating, microwaves, and lockers. They also offer asthetician training. The products they use are all natural, organic, and have a lot of essential oils that make the rooms smell nice.
The price of the program is $3k less than the Alcohol and Drug Counseling program I'd looked at at another school. So, yes, I'll be put further in debt, but the smaller the price tag, the better. Tuition includes books and my own massage table. I meet with the financial aid advisor next week, and get to have a free massage by someone in the program I want to go into.
I'm tenatively excited. I have to keep my long term goals in mind; they may be what will get me through this.
