I know I have a lot of crafty friends, maybe someone can help me out. A few years ago I remember seeing a pattern on a website (I'm pretty sure it was
this one) for doing a simple child's "big belly" costume that could be any animal you liked by changing the color of the fabric.
I remember the basic idea was to use an old extra-long T-shirt as the base, and then you sewed the fabric onto it and stuffed it, and it had a snap system around the crotch and you pulled matching pants up over it.
My problem is with the "sewed the fabric onto it" step. I can just barely follow a simple pattern, and making one up that doesn't leave raw edges hanging out all over will be a challenge.
Does anyone know where such a pattern could be found? or have any ideas for how to execute it in the absence of a pattern? I spent about an hour last night looking on-line and couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm hemming the pants, installing elastic, making another dragon wing, and making a paper mache mask today. Once I'm done with those though, it will be time to do the top. I might just wing it, but if someone has a link or advice that's easy to share I'm all ears.
