Long time no see.

I was never a very regular user of LiveJournal, despite faithful reading of my friends page, and upon selling out to Facebook, I became even more of a slacker about it. Now I can't even be bothered to log into Facebook, my Tumblr is months out of date, and my MySpace account is just a vestigial online presence that is all but useless to me. It's liberating to take a break from being overly connected, but it's starting to make me anxious. I thought I should log on and post a brief summary of what's been going on in my life since the year started.

January:
Deadly shooting in Tucson, putting the Old Pueblo on the map and exposing some of Arizona's backwards politics.

New semester at the U of A and my classes consist of the following--grazing ecology and management, beef production, a botany/plant ecology class, livestock nutrition, and a land planning class. Beef is the most enjoyable class with the best field trips, and it's also the least relevant to my major (naturally). Sometimes I wonder if I should have minored in animal science.

February:
Annual convention of the Society for Range Management, held in Billings, Montana. First visit to Montana. First time standing outside when the temperature was 22 below zero with no windchill. Excellent networking (with big-wig Washington DC-level people too!), inside secrets to getting a job with the Forest Service and BLM, improved score on the Undergraduate Range Management Exam over last year's score (both individually and across the team). Oodles of people in western wear and Carhartt jackets.

National Collegiate Leadership Conference at the U of A. First time I've ever been motivated to participate in leadership workshops--thanks to inspiration from Mr. Parks (and we even watched a clip of "Hook" in one workshop). Kicking myself for not joining leadership and honor societies years ago when I had the grades to command invitations to them.

All the while:
moving and shaking on home improvements, projects for Carl's endeavors, ways to make money in addition to my job, yoga for mental and physical fitness, trying to increase overal mindfulness and find ways to make life more earth-friendly, economical, and simple

That about sums things up for now. I need to sign off to get going on a major homework assignment, so I will return to sneak around without posting in the next couple of days.
