[The other woman's tone is almost as confusing as her words.] I was supposedly beamed down near the settlement, but this looks nothing like our topographical scans of the area. Are you on the Enterprise?

[She's inclined to agree with the other woman on that count, but that's beside the point.]
Farragut? What are you talking about? [Gaila's always been assigned to the Enterprise.] And what the hell is Bete Noire? [She's beginning to suspect some sort of trickery.]
[If Scotty was telling the truth, this isn't her Captain, but the sound of his voice still makes her instantly wary. Kirk's a dangerous man... Though asking if she's all right is definitely out of character for the Kirk she knows.]
[She's considering lying, like she always considers, but given the way the city's been fucking with her lately, she miiight be giving into a hint of pride. Not that she'll tell anyone.]
[Finally she's found someone from her own universe. Servants of the Empire are not to be trusted, and Vulcans doubly so, but at least she knows the rules of the game. And she's heard of T'Pol's Enterprise.]
Lieutenant Uhura of the ISS Enterprise NCC-1701, a later version of your own ship.
[A pause, where he's looking at the far side of the room where Uhura--his Uhura--sits. He speaks in a calm, pleasant, and airy tone, with inflection in the wrong places. A child with a man's voice.]
[He can't see it, but her brow furrows as she picks up on the oddities in his inflection.]
I'm afraid. I'm sorry [she says, pretending to mean it. There's no way for her to pretend when she has absolutely no idea who he is. Besides, he certainly doesn't sound like a thread.]

Uh, nope. I was dead because I was on the Farragut but now I'm not and stuff. And we're in Bete Noire, you know this.

[A pause, then.]
ISS or USS?

ISS.
What is USS and how do I get back to my reality?

Uhura, It's Kirk. Are you alright?

I'm... not sure. I'm pretty disoriented.

How long have you been here, sir?

As Scott said, you'll find leaving a good deal more difficult than arriving.
