This was not what Lance wanted to be doing at night, especially with his handheld missing in action like it was. He'd thought he'd broken Aerodactyl of that habit, but Laphraiog's presence had apparently only encouraged her, and between the two of them he hadn't managed to get the comm back.

It didn't matter. Laph had his handheld hidden, but he'd caught Aerodactyl and was now going out to search for 'Conrad'. Whoever was in his body didn't have the same moral instincts, and Lance wanted to make sure it wasn't misused.

So that was why he was walking the street with a frown, scanning the area as he made his way from Conrad's apartment, trying to work out the route 'Conrad' might have taken.

((OOC: If there's even a tiny bit of physical contact I can work some magic to get Lance to keep his mouth shut more permanently. :3))

Problem was, the route Conrad would've taken was probably the opposite of the route that "Conrad" took. Towards noise, lights and crowds instead of as far away as possible. Still, it wasn't like she was working hard to cover her tracks.

It was later on in the night and she was feeling the rush of not starving half to more-death anymore, she had that blood hot and pumping and making everything good. Not that she couldn't go for another bite but now she felt like she actually could kick in a door.

Hands in her pockets, she was heading back to the office-slash-apartment, wondering if her buddy the thing with the extra everythings would be there.

It was a problem. It was a problem enough that, eventually, Lance headed back to the apartment to start over in another direction, taking deep, slow breaths to try and stave off the sense of urgency. Wasn't the first time; the key was not to let the sense push too hard.

This meant he was going in the opposite direction he'd started at, moving along the street close to the buildings and keeping an eye out for a figure in ... actually, he wasn't sure Conrad would be dressed as usual. So he just kept an eye out for everything, scanning every person he passed.

Eventually, a familiar profile caught his eye and he paused, looking toward it. The person in question wasn't moving anywhere near like Conrad did, but that didn't mean much.

Conrad was full, so she didn't take a real close gander at the guy looking at her from a ways off. It was either a little early or a little late for a midnight snack so he was off the hook in her books.

The staring got old real quick, though, so she did a little test drive on the juiced-up and improved Conrad, stepping up real quick and close with a grin. "Somethin' I can help you with there, Red?"

The speed of the movement, and then movement itself, was startling--Conrad didn't move like that, didn't move that fast and obnoxious. Even knowing someone else was in the vampire's body didn't change the expectation he had of the way that body moved.

So Lance instinctively jerked back, one hand lifting in an automatic block before he managed to turn it, midway, into a 'stop' motion with two fingers against the vampire's chest. (He didn't notice that his fingers tingled faintly--didn't know that the touch alone registered with the magical residue left by the bodyswapping book he and Sefton had been affected by months ago. didn't know that the magic was activated again, mutated and faint.)

"Woah there." Just a bit close, a bit too fast. "I was looking for you." And then he frowned, taking in the outfit. "What are you wearing?" Oh yes, definitely not Conrad.

"Somethin' better than what I had on earlier, I'll tell you that much," Conrad tched with a weave of her head. Even with the switch from predator to another, sharper-toothed kind of predator she still moved like a big cat in the grass, and the guy she was sizing up right now had nice big gazelle with a wounded leg written all over him.

"What'd you want me for? I didn't do it, whatever it is."

Lance saw it. Conrad didn't move like that; this was the air of someone who could fight. Not that the vampire's body was at all conditioned, but that only went so far. It was mentality too, and he wasn't entirely sure he liked the way 'Conrad' was eyeing him.

"I wanted to make sure you didn't do anything stupid while you were amnesiac," he said, and then stopped with a blink, because that hadn't been what he meant to say. 'While you're taking my friend's body for a joy-ride' was closer to what he'd wanted to say. What the hell?

"What do you care? Are we buddies or somethin'?" Because she wasn't getting a real friendly vibe from the guy. He smelled weird in a couple different ways, but she couldn't put her finger on the whys and wherefores.

And then her grin twitched out wide and pointy again. "I'm not sure your stupid is my stupid either. Maybe you could give me a rundown."

"Something like that." Except not at all, because it's Conrad he knows, not this person. He's not aware of what she might be smelling--Conrad had never shown he smelled anything weird about him. Part of it would be dragons, animals, his constant exposure. Another would be the incubus.

This was disturbing.

"Joyriding," he said dryly, and it wasn't a car he was referring to--but that wasn't clear, and he wasn't censored. "Breaking things. Getting into trouble. Or arrested." Or any number of things.

Her eyes went a little narrow. "Why, are you a cop or somethin'?"

It seemed like there was something else she should be worried about more than a cop. Pointy stakes, snappy comebacks...hot chicks with superpowers? It all seemed like it was on the tip of her brain but she couldn't quite pin it down with a finger.

First things first, she needed to get a bead on who this guy was and why he was all up in her grill.

An exasperated look. He had been a cop, and near enough in his world, but he wasn't anymore. He wasn't entirely sure if it would be wise to reveal he got kicked for drug-abuse and assault, however.

"Because I'm your--" his "--friend and I don't want to have to pay bail just because you chose to do something stupid."

Seriously, who was this? He had a faint suspicion, but it was a suspicion he didn't particularly want to entertain. Surely the city wouldn't be that cruel?

"Well then don't you worry, I know how to take care of myself." Fact was she didn't, like a newborn vamp without a clue how it worked, but she was good at bluster. She backed off, arms wide.

"It's real sweet of you to worry, though."

Lance lifted an sceptical eyebrow. "Of course. Because you didn't need anyone or anything to tell you your name or anything like that. You know exactly who you are, where you are and why."

Unfortunately for her, Lance was immune to bluster.

"I know my name." It was defensive and sharp, with a glance around for good measure. "It's Conrad. And I'm in Bete Noire, crazy City of Sin."

She knew that. Everyone knew that. Even if some of it didn't seem right she was going to hold on to that until it did.

"Uh huh." Lance nodded. "After you looked at your ID. How many people had to tell you where you were?"

Even 'one' was enough of an answer.

"Mass amnesia. It's goin' around. You might wanna look into it, Sport." She tossed off a shrug, all casual and hands in her pockets. "Everyone and their dog is on the blank slate trip, so if maybe I had to check out my papers to figure out the whos and wheres but it wasn't like I was the only one."
