Volkner was still trying to gather exactly how to spend his days, especially when there was nothing he could do to lend a hand at the shelter. Find a job? Right. What kind of job? He'd need to think of that, come up with some sort of idea first...

So, not sure what else to do with his time, Volkner decided to sit outside the shelter, (passively, vaguely) reading a book he'd found lying around the Hostel. Of course, Luxray wasn't far - as if the protective demon would let his trainer wander off unattended in a city still strange to the both of them. The large cat was lying just off to the side, nearly asleep.

In Chivy's opinion, too many people (read: mostly Sefton) spent too much time (read: any time at all) with books in or at hand. Hearing about the bondage books, and having arrived just after Lance woke from some kind of magic/book-induced coma, hadn't greatly improved the already low opinion he'd had of them back home. As such, when he saw Volkner with a book, his first impulse was to approach and try to pull his attention away. It wasn't until he'd already gotten pretty close that he even noticed Luxray, and stopped to give him a slow once over.

That accomplished, he found his own place to sit near to Volkner and tried to get a look at his book. "What're you reading?"

"I have no idea," Volkner answered immediately with the barest shade of a smirk, before lowering the book and turning his attention to the boy. "I just found it."

He was about to say something else, but Luxray awoke. It spotted the stranger and leapt up, padding his way over and giving a low growl. Volkner was clearly all too used to this, because he just reached over to place a hand on the beast's head, to calm him down.

Chivy scooted back a little at first, but relaxed when Volkner didn't seem too worried. He couldn't figure out what to say in response to Luxray's movement, though, and it didn't seem right to try continuing the earlier line of conversation, so he just looked between the two of them, a lot confused and kind of curious as well.

Volkner shook his head, turned his attention back to the kid, though he kept one hand on Luxray. It seemed to work well enough, because the demon calmed considerably and sat back down, though it did manage to warily glance over at Chivy every now and then...

"Sorry," Volkner said sincerely. "He won't do anything to hurt you, though. Not while I'm here."

"It's okay," Chivy said, meaning it. It wasn't as if Luxray had done anything, just sounded a little menacing. "Doesn't like strangers, I guess?" Alright with it or no, he watched the cat, somewhat wary of it doing something else, but a lot just interested.

Volkner shook his head. "Not really," he answered, "and it doesn't help that this place is so different from home." He shrugged a shoulder. Once Luxray finally laid back down (right next to Volkner, of course), he turned his full attention back to the kid.

"Are you from the hostel?" he asked, curious, as well as a little unsure how to make conversation. Who knew, maybe the time difference applied to conversation-making as well.

"I stay there, yeah." Chivy shrugged - he wasn't sure he could claim to be 'from' anywhere, really. "He came here with you?"

Volkner nodded. "I was able to bring two of my demons with me." He nodded toward the shelter. "Raichu's inside, likely still asleep."

He thought for a second, then smiled just faintly. "You're not a trainer, are you?" Then he added, almost more to himself, "Are the Champion and I the only ones?"

"I'm not sure what you're asking, so probably not. Sorry," Chivy said, shaking his head.

Volkner's small smile took on a more amused shade as he shook his head in return. "It's nothing to apologize for."

Chivy laughed. "Yeah, well, I wouldn't know. How long have you been here?"
