Here's one. :| -- Afternoon, y/n? lackingspark June 23 2011, 01:13:30 UTC
Volkner was still trying to gather exactly how to spend his days, especially when there was nothing he could do to lend a hand at the shelter. Find a job? Right. What kind of job? He'd need to think of that, come up with some sort of idea first...

So, not sure what else to do with his time, Volkner decided to sit outside the shelter, (passively, vaguely) reading a book he'd found lying around the Hostel. Of course, Luxray wasn't far - as if the protective demon would let his trainer wander off unattended in a city still strange to the both of them. The large cat was lying just off to the side, nearly asleep.

In Chivy's opinion, too many people (read: mostly Sefton) spent too much time (read: any time at all) with books in or at hand. Hearing about the bondage books, and having arrived just after Lance woke from some kind of magic/book-induced coma, hadn't greatly improved the already low opinion he'd had of them back home. As such, when he saw Volkner with a book, his first impulse was to approach and try to pull his attention away. It wasn't until he'd already gotten pretty close that he even noticed Luxray, and stopped to give him a slow once over.

That accomplished, he found his own place to sit near to Volkner and tried to get a look at his book. "What're you reading?"

"I have no idea," Volkner answered immediately with the barest shade of a smirk, before lowering the book and turning his attention to the boy. "I just found it."

He was about to say something else, but Luxray awoke. It spotted the stranger and leapt up, padding his way over and giving a low growl. Volkner was clearly all too used to this, because he just reached over to place a hand on the beast's head, to calm him down.

Chivy scooted back a little at first, but relaxed when Volkner didn't seem too worried. He couldn't figure out what to say in response to Luxray's movement, though, and it didn't seem right to try continuing the earlier line of conversation, so he just looked between the two of them, a lot confused and kind of curious as well.

And 2. :P! -- Evening shapechanged June 23 2011, 16:44:25 UTC
Desiree was completely zoned out. It had been a strange past couple of days for her, especially at the police station. She was even running late tonight, seeing as she'd stayed at work way past her normal hours in some sort of effort to get more paperwork through (it didn't really help - she made a mental note to probably not bother trying again). Desiree was rarely late for anything. She also rarely allowed herself to look as tired as she felt, and she looked to be run downright ragged, so in all actuality, at this point...

Regardless, she showed up for her volunteer work at the shelter, per usual. Though as tired as she was, she couldn't quite get her brain to move forward with what she needed to actually do. So there she stood, by the puppy pen, staring blankly at the clipboard in her hand as though it would start speaking to her instead of her having to read. You'd think the clamoring and colliding of teeny puppies in a nearby pen would be enough to catch a girl's attention, though...

Chivy's focus was on the puppies first, and he walked up with a grin on his face - their excitement was almost contagious. When he actually paid attention to Desi, though, his expression settled into a more concerned state. "Hey, you okay?"

She did not at all hear him approach, did not at all see that he was standing there... so when he finally spoke, she squeaked and jumped, startled, and whirled to face him.

"Oh! God! Sorry!" She smiled sheepishly, laughing a little at herself, one hand over her heart as the other one supported the clipboard. "Hi, Chivy. Yeah, I'm okay. It's just been a long week already."

Chivy jumped himself when she squeaked, and put his hands up when she apologized. "What? No, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!"

Sefton was in the den. Lance disappeared hours ago, and Flemming had arrived and departed sometime after that. It was nearing dusk now and the teenager had parked himself by the window facing out into the yard. Dragonair remained coiled up on the pile of pillows and blankets near the center; his eyes were closed, but it was impossible to miss the way his ears twitched every time Sefton moved.

He looked out into the backyard, with the animals, Kelp, visitors (activity), and saw very little of it. He instead imagined a small town in Vermont, all the peoples' lives that would be different, better off, for one unfortunate boy to have never been brought into their lives. There was a sort of numbness that came with the images now, tied with his resign and hope.

If only.

Chivy was out in the yard when he spotted Sefton. He didn't bother waving - catching Sefton's attention from a distance was always a hit-or-miss sort of plan, and he was more in the mood to talk to the other teen than chase him around - but just headed inside.

He pulled the door shut behind him and went to stand by Sefton. "Hey."

Sefton turned to him when Chivy came in. His brow drew together as he tried to pull some of his attention away from the inside and focus on the outside. It took a moment for it to truly register who it was, and he couldn't help the slight softening of his expression.

"Hey."

"What's up?" Chivy asked, taking a seat. He knew better than to ask how Sefton was with an expression like that, but this was at least a possible conversation topic. He watched out the window, not really seeing it either, but it was better than staring at Sefton.
