microblogging saps livejournaling spirit, though i am thinking i will get back in the habit?
my mom's surgery went well, although she is still in the hospital for some complications, which is not completely unexpected but still troubling.
i have not yet produced anything legitimately devastating, but
valentine's day dinner was probably the highest quality meal i've put together thus far, though of course in this scenario the day-of cooking was a joint effort. the blood orange french 75 had excellent bitter notes. a chocolate-caramel-salt trio played out perfectly in the valrhona chocolate pots de creme with warm caramel sauce and pink salt. the truffled celery root bisque with sea scallop and caviar was also, simply, decadent. generally, while i may cook to impress, almost invariably i fail to even satisfy myself; on saturday i ended up quite pleased.
relatedly we seem to have gotten in on the seattle food bloggers distribution list. we are internet-important. honest.
as tends to happen i have settled into a rhythm for accomplishing critical tasks like getting to work, paying bills, and not starving, although as also tends to happen the time i have for noncritical tasks remains a little unsettling. mid-year reviews came in, and i also need to start being more productive at work. among other things, it seems to help to cut out non-work web sites while at work. funny how that works.
my entire division is moving to a few towers in bellevue, the city-in-the-suburbs, with my group moving in june. that's an awful long time away, although i will have my own office to look forward to there, and hopefully enough space for them to bring rock band back out from storage. also there: a more awkward commute. boo.
other things i did: winter camping, a new year's party, and acquire a netbook, windows home server, and knife set.
things i would like to do, but probably won't: get a
nanokey and make music-approximations; obtain things for diy
sous vide (i am thinking i would get a usb thermometer and rig it up with my existing rice cooker and old x10 boxes).
