- LOGAN STARK and LOKI - Those Who Stand In The Shadows (Avengers)

It’s funny how in the midst of all the destruction and chaos, it would be the two of them who find each other, standing just a few feet apart, eyes locked, and wearing identical expressions of barely concealed fury.
“If you wanted to have a pissing match with your family, why don’t you do it on your own planet and leave mine alone!” Logan Stark shouted out.
“Why should I?” Loki sneered, “This planet was made to be ruled, and my father did always say I was born to be a king.”
Logan snorted at Loki’s words and shook his head, a look of disgust flashed across the dark-haired teen’s face, “So Daddy didn’t love you enough, boohoo! So you’re not all praised and loved like Thor, big deal! You’re not the only one who’s had it rough. You think somehow throwing some galactic temper tantrum helps you? And here I thought you were suppose to be the clever one!”
In the blink of an eye, Logan found himself pinned against a wall with Loki’s staff held to his neck. The Asgard God himself seething in anger as he whispered harshly, “Don’t you talk about things you don’t understand, you silly child!”
“Oh I understand it well enough!” Logan gritted out as he struggled to get himself out of Loki’s grip, “You’re not the only one in existence who’s had to grow up in someone else’s shadow, realizing you’re never gonna be as good as he is, nor as loved. But you know what? You grow up and you deal with it. You be a man about it instead of acting like a whiny little baby!”
“I am being a man about it.” Loki replied, slipping back to his calm exterior, “I am following my own path and simply showing my power. I’ve had a long time to think about this, little boy. I don’t need to live up to anyone else’s expectations anymore. I am building my own. THIS is what I want.”
Without another word and before Logan could react, Loki had tossed him into the air and let a wave of power loose from his staff, blasting Logan clear across the field and leaving the teen gasping in pain on the ground.
Pained and defiant blue eyes gazed up as Logan noticed Loki standing in front of him, staring down with almost a look of pity.
“You should take my advice, child.”
And with that, Loki walked away.
It’s funny how two people both born in another’s shadow can walk such different paths. One allowed anger and resentment to warp his view of the world but the other was more than content to stand away from the spotlight. What makes them so different? Was it their upbringing? Was it the people they loved? Or could it simply be one is good and the other is evil? If we look into their core and their motivations, could we see that maybe they are more alike than they’ll ever know?
