I spent some time recently saving up in order to buy myself a computer upgrade. About the only things I will be keeping are a 250GB ATA100 HD and my ATA DVD+-RW drive. Everything else is going to be new. A year ago I told myself that I would move to console gaming in the future, and wouldn't need a new computer for a long time. But then I found EVE, and alas I am gaming on the PC once again. Hopefully this machine will last me for a while; my current budget box survived for 4 years with only a 6600GT added along the way.
- Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2.2 GHz, 2 MB cache)
- Arctic Cooling Pro 7 heatsink/fan
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA2 160GB HD (system drive)
- Antec Sonata III case, with included Antec Earthwatts 500W powersupply
- 2 GB OCZ CL4-4-4-15 DDR2-800 RAM
- HIS IceQ3 Turbo Radeon 3850 / 512 MB videocard
From the various reviews I have been reading, these components are also rather quiet, which will be a pleasant change from my current machine. It has a lovely high-pitched whine (GPU fan, I think) along with a noisy powersupply and CPU HSF. If I can tame the noise on this system, I will have to look at my wife's computer to see how I can shut it up as well.
Fingers crossed, it will hopefully be ready a few days after Christmas. With luck I might get it on the 28th...
