A non-beauty post! But this is still somewhat related to my post yesterday which is a 2014 favorites post. I would say 2014 was the year I got into books again. I was able to read a lot but towards the latter half of the year, I got into reading again. I thought I'd share my favorites books from 2014 (which means books I've read in 2014 and not necessarily released last year):
Gillian Flynn Books - Gone Girl, Sharp Objects and Dark Places
These books are my absolute favorites in 2014. I think I finished reading these books in less than a week. I started with Gone Girl which was in everybody's reading list when it came out (the movie helped with the hype too I'm sure) and I finished it in no time. I loved it so much that I looked for her other books and finished reading those too. Gillian is such a pro at creating flawed females. I love all of her characters.
Tina Fey - Bossypants and Amy Poehler - Yes Please
I put these two books together because I love them so much and the women who wrote them. The treatment of the books are the same. They're a collection of stories and essays written by these two comedic goddesses who I believe should always work together. I hope they release a co-written book, that would be super good!
Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl
I resisted buying this book even though I've seen a lot of good reviews about it. I just wasn't feeling the YA genre anymore but I ran out of books that I wanted to read and decided to pick this up for one of my trips and ended up liking it. Now I've learned my lesson. When Rainbow releases another book, I'll pick it up right away.
Chuck Palahniuk books (Haunted, Invisible Monsters)
I have my friend Jinky to thank for introducing me to CP books. She lent me her Invisible Monsters copy and I ended up devouring it. I had to pick up more. Haunted is probably my favorite because it is simply sick and twisted and disturbing and brilliant. If you haven't read any of his works, try this one and I'm sure you'll be hooked.
Those are some of favorites books for 2014. This year, I want to read more. I'm aiming to read at least one book per month. What would you recommend for January?
