Weekend Haul + On Trial #2: MUA Products

May 13, 2014 13:09

I've been thinking about whether I should lump all of the products that I've hauled here in the UK altogether or if I should just do it by brand? I have a bunch of stuff from Boots, Superdrug and Topshop (I've been feeling spendy to compensate for the sadness). Some I've already used, some are still in the plastic bag. But my problem was solved for me when Addie spent the weekend at my flat. I asked her to bring some of my loot home and I thought I'd just feature the ones that were left in my makeup bag/drawer.

Today it's going to be about the brand MUA Makeup Academy. I used to think the recently opened store in Manila called The Makeup Store was MUA which is a UK drugstore brand found in Superdrug. But they're quite different. First of all MUA is super, super affordable. I got three products but I could have gotten so much more and not make a dent on my per diem. Here's what I have:

I got two powder blushes in Cupcake and Bonbon for 1 pound each and the eyeshadow palette called Undressed Too for 4 pounds. In my opinion, they're a total bargain for the price. The blushes are not as pigmented as say a Tarte blush but I can build them up and they don't become cakey. They have some shimmer but it's not super in your face. I like the color selection too and while the packaging is made of cheap plastic, it's compact and easy to lug around.

Undressed Too (the brand's supposed dupe for Naked 2 but I can't comment on that as I do not have that palette to compare) is another nude palette which I don't really need as I have enough. But I was getting bored of my NARS Narsissist which was the only palette I brought (should have brought Naked 3 for variety) so I was drawn to this and I have also heard some good reviews of this. The packaging is totally terrible (white plastic looks tacky) and the sponge it comes with is useless. What I like about it though, is that for the price, it has a nice selection of colors. I'm missing light, shimmery shades from the NARS one and this palette has that a plenty. The colors swatch beautifully but for some reason it doesn't transfer well to the eyelids. I've used my MAC 217 to pack on the color but I still have to layer several times for the color to show. Still, I love the colors and they're not too terrible.

The main driving point for me is the price and for their price point, they deliver well. I might pick up the single eyeshadows (which costs 1pound each too) and highlighter which I hear is lovely too.
