As you can probably tell from the photo, this week is going to be all about my MAC lipstick collection. It's not as crazy as other makeup addicts out there but over the past year, I've added a few tubes in my collection. I have to say that I used to be super intimidated by the MAC counters in Rustan's. I never go near them because the sales assistants in their all black outfits look scary. Like they'll scoff at me if I admit that I don't know the difference between an amplified lipstick and a lustre lipstick. There are SAs like that mind you, but there are also helpful ones who'll guide you through their vast array of products. I really like shopping in Shangri-La because the SAs there are nice(r).
Anyway, I was thinking of how to group these lippies together. I initially planned to do it by color but that didn't work because I mostly have pinks. So I settled on doing it by finish. I only have four types, so the first one I'm going to write about is my only MAC lipstick in Satin Finish.
The very first MAC lipstick that I ever got is Pink Nouveau. I have to tell you the story about this very popular color. A few years ago, there was this very popular movie called No Other Woman which was a big box office hit. Everyone saw it not because it was good but because it was campy and it was so bad it actually became good. You kind of have to watch it because everyone else saw it and was referencing it. Anyway, I saw it with my friends and I paid more attention to the clothes and makeup than the actual story.
The main characters were played by two young actresses and one of them wore Pink Nouveau in one of the important scenes. It looked really, really good on her and I knew I had to get the lipstick after watching the movie.
Anyway, Pink Nouveau (aside from being super hard to spell) is a pink lipstick with blue undertone. Satin finishes are supposed to have color-rich semi matte finish that conditions while adding intense color. I wouldn't count on the conditioning part but it does have a semi-matte finish and the color is really bold.
This is how it looks on my lips. It's not very flattering especially if you have dry lips like I do because it has a semi-matte finish. It highlights the lines on my lips. I also learned that blue-toned pinks don't work on me. I've used it a couple of times when I first got it, trying to make it work for me. But I've since gave up trying. I tried it on again to get the photo above and it just looks weird on me. I might give this away in the future. Wear time is pretty decent with a satin finish. It'll last for about four to six hours.
I want to get one more satin lipstick from MAC, I just haven't decided on a color yet.
