Flying Lesson

Today I had my first flying lesson.  It was in a little 4-seater where the top opened to let you in.  I sat in the pilot's seat and helped with the take off.  It was pretty sweet hearing all the chatter on the radio, though I didn't understand much of it.  I learned about the numbers and letters you see on the runway and how they're basically like street signs that the control tower uses to tell you how to get to the runway so you don't come near any other planes that are taxiing or taking off/landing.  After we took off we got permission to climb much higher than they normally get to go in flight lessons.  The smaller planes can't handle going through clouds, so since it was only partly cloudy today, we went around and above them to an altitude around 5500, minus the 800 for the ground level.  We flew to downtown GR and then circled down rather quickly to get a better look.  I tried looking for where James works, but I couldn't find it.  I learned the difference between a banking turn and a rudder turn, called a yaw.  It's basically like skidding in a car.  On the way back my instructor had me call the tower to request a "full stop landing on 26 Left," which is the name of the runway he wanted to land on, then we landed and taxied back to the hangar where I helped push the plane back into the hangar for storage.

It was awesome and I wasn't scared at all.  It's going to be expensive and many things I'll have to learn about the lingo and planes themselves and flying, but it will all come with time.  I wonder how Ayla would do if I took her on a plane ride in the cockpit....
