oh I've had birds before (Which is why I don't have any now...they are quite the handful, and right now I wouldn't have the time they require). And yes, I would definitely go through a breeder. They can also offer so much more knowledge about the particular bird you are buying.
Mm, that was the biggest hurdle when I bought a Princess of Wales parakeet--there is so little information on keeping them. I was able to speak to a bird nutritionist recently, which was a big help.
