Niou had spent most of his day at his spot by the waterfall reading and taking notes for his classes since he didn't want to fall behind when they get back home someday. When he felt his arm start to cramp up from writing too much, he decided to take a break. Which was how he found himself packing up his notebooks, pens, and iPad that had all his books on it in his backpack and walked downstream to where Akaya was waiting for him so that he could keep the younger male company while he fished.

Akaya was perched on a rock that was firmly planted in the water a few feet from the shore. He had been looking up the best way to catch crawdads, and was in the process of waiting on one of his nets. Checking his watch to see that enough time had passed, he pulled the net out of the water and carried it back to the shore. There were only a few crawdads in the net, but he lacked the light he needed to fish for them at night. Looking upriver toward the waterfall, he smiled as he caught sight of Niou walking down the bank toward him.

"Hey." Niou greeted him with a slight smile as he approached him. Though he had wanted to spend time with the younger male, he didn't know what he could here since he doesn't fish nor does he know what to talk about. Pressing his lips together, he glanced down at the live crawdads in the net and took a small step back. He preferred being near any type of crustacean after they were dead. "Seems likes you already caught quite a few."

"Eh, I've got some. I don't know if this is enough, or if I should try for more." Akaya pulled the crawdads out of the net and dropped them in the bucket he usually reserved for live fish. "Do you think we have enough for a stew yet?"

Niou shrugged. "Depends on how many you want feed." he said. "For everyone here, definitely not. But, it should be enough for you and Hiroshi if that was what you were planning. Then again, I wouldn't know really."

Akaya frowned a bit and looked at Niou. "The stew will be for you, too. You need to eat just as much as Yagyuu and I do."

"I'm a living being. Of course I need to eat." Niou said. Though how much he needed to eat was a different story. He sighed a little, might as well eat some of it for them. "I'll eat the stew, Akaya."

Akaya gave him a serious look for a moment before nodding. "Alright. But if you want any trout or anything, let me know and I'll catch some for you." Taking a curious look at the other man's backpack, he tipped his head to the side slightly. "I didn't interrupt your work or anything, did I?"

Niou shook his head. "No need for that. I can feed myself; wouldn't be here if I couldn't, you know?" he said with a slight smirk. He shifted his backpack up a bit. "Not really? Was just reading and taking notes; don't want to fall behind even if we're stuck here for now." He sighed as he massaged his left hand a little. "But I needed a break anyway; been at it since morning."

Akaya smiled a bit and set the bucket off to the side. There was more than enough water in it to keep the crawdads alive and fresh until they were taken back to the caves. “I hope you’re not working yourself too hard. I can give you another back rub if you want one.”

"That depends on what you would classify as 'too hard;' one person could say that I am and another says that I'm not. I think I'm working myself just enough; I was able to go through several chapters since I started today." The back rub was an tempting offer, but Niou didn't want Akaya to be too close in which he might get asked about some fading marks he tried to conceal from people. "Back rub, no. Hand massage, maybe."

Akaya nodded and led Niou over to the blanket that was spread out on the ground. "I think I can do that. Give me your hand?"

After placing his backpack on the ground, Niou sat behind Akaya, wrapping his right arm around the other's waist and held out his left hand. He leaned forward resting his chin on his shoulder. "Good?"

Akaya smiled and leaned back against Niou’s chest. Taking the other man’s left hand into his own, he started gently massaging near the wrist before working his way toward the trickster’s fingers. “Yeah, this is good. I’d even venture to call it great.”

"Hmm." Niou hummed, eyes closing for a moment. Akaya was at giving massages, even if he just asked for a small hand massage. His head tilted a little to the side, gently touching the other's. "Since we're here, and I don't feel like letting go for a while," he liked the warmth the younger male gave, "do you have something you want to talk about?" he asked, eyes opened just half-way.

Akaya leaned his head against Niou’s a little more as he worked his thumbs against the heel of the other’s hand. “Not anything particular, no. I’m just glad I get to spend time with you. The beach seems so crowded lately, and I’m sure the caves aren’t much better. I’ve been spending almost all my time here to be honest. But if you have something on your mind, I’d be happy to listen.”

Niou shook his head. "No, not really. Not much happens around me since I spend some of my time alone while the rest of it goes to Hiroshi and I don't have any other important stories to tell you." he shrugged a bit. "Let's just talk about anything in general."

Akaya nodded as he kept massaging Niou's hand. "Alright, that works for me. Are the caves getting crowded with all the new people?"

"Wouldn't know. I only keep to one cave and there's only one other person there besides me." Niou shrugged, a small smirk playing on his lips. "The beach really getting that crowded?"

“I don’t know. It seems like it anyway. And it sucks that we’re getting so many new people and not getting rescued.” Akaya sighed a little sadly as he held onto Niou’s hand.

Tightening his hold on the younger male, Niou turned and placed a light kiss on the side of Akaya's head. "At least we have each other and others to help each other survive…and to help keep our sanity while stuck here." he added with a small laugh. He didn't want to feel even the tiniest bit sad.

“That’s true, I suppose.” Akaya tried to smile, but it was harder than it probably should have been with Niou wrapped around him. He was trying to be happy with what he had, and trying so very hard to be patient, but sometimes, his best just wasn’t good enough on that front.

Niou sighed a little and removed his arm from around Akaya's waist then moved away a bit. "I know that you said that I was worth the wait, but if you can't wait anymore, then it'll be okay if you just want to move on." He had been thinking of what to do with Akaya for a while now. He absolutely liked him more than a friend, but… he didn't loved him more than a friend just yet. He wanted to at least get to the point in which say that he loved the other before actually getting in a relationship with him since he knew it wouldn't be fair right now when he loved Yagyuu, but only liked Akaya a lot. Yes, it would hurt him if the younger male decided that he couldn't wait anymore and moved on, but as long as he was happy with that decision, Niou would let him go.

Akaya looked mildly distressed as he turned to face Niou. "No! You are absolutely worth the wait! I'm just being stupid. It's dumb for me to feel jealous of both you and Yagyuu, but I don't know how to stop."

"What Hiroshi and I have took years to form really." Niou said as he leaned back against the palms of his hands and looked up into the sky. "I didn't know that I had fallen in love with him until our third year. I kind of regret that I didn't act on it sooner and just used others as substitutes for him 'cause I couldn't act on my feelings." He sighed again and looked back at Akaya. He reached out and gently touched the other's cheek with his fingers. "I'm not saying that it might take as long for us…or maybe it will, I don't know. But I'm working on it and won't be holding back or anything." He leaned forward and gently pressed his lips against Akaya's. "I guess I could understand why you would be jealous, but eventually we'll get there, okay?"

Akaya nodded and leaned closer to Niou. “I know. And I really am trying to do my best. It’s just...it’s hard when I know the two of you have something I never will because of your history, and I want to get Yagyuu to open up more and get to know him more, but I don’t know how to do that. And I don’t want to force myself into your space, because that’s not going to help anything. But I’m not willing to give up on either of you, because you two are worth it.”

Niou pulled the younger male closer and held him in his arms. "There's a phrase for this. Hmm…I think it's 'Rome wasn't built in a day?'" he shrugged. "I know that we, or maybe it's just me… I know that I test people's patience and stretch it really thin, but end result will be good, right?" Or at least he hoped it would turn out well. He sighed. "I don't know."

Akaya curled into Niou’s arms. “It will be. I know it will. I’m just...I’m going to be patient and work hard on the things I can do.”

"If it's worth anything, I'm sorry." Niou mumbled. "I have a feeling that everybody is just waiting for me, but I can't always give everyone everything they want so quickly."

Akaya wrapped his arms around Niou and burrowed into him a bit. “That’s ok. I mean it. I mean, yeah, I’m a little jealous of how close Yagyuu is to you, but at the same time I’m a little jealous of how open he is around you. And you need to take care of yourself and your own needs before worrying about us.”

Niou didn't know what to really say at that moment without saying too much. He sighed as he reached up and patted Akaya on the head twice. "Let's just move onto a different topic." he suggested with a small smile.

“Good idea. What should we talk about?” Akaya nodded and nuzzled Niou’s neck gently.

At the feel of Akaya against his neck, Niou froze a little. It was odd for him to do that, not when they had been closer before, but he couldn't stop the urge to run away now that was coursing through him. Something just didn't feel right at the moment. "Actually, I think my break is over, Akaya. I should really go back and finish these chapters." he said, trying to keep his tone normal. He leaned forward and pressed a light kiss on the other's cheek. "I'll come by later to help you carry things, okay?" Niou let go of him and pulled out of his hold then stood up and grabbed his backpack. He looked down at the younger male, crouching down for a moment to gently pressed his palm against the other's cheek and gave him the best smile he could conquer up at the moment before leaving.

Akaya sat stunned as Niou left. Once the trickster was well out of eyesight, he curled into a ball on the blanket. "What happened? What went wrong? I feel like I'm losing him...but why doesn't it hurt more if I am?" He stayed there for some time, lost in his own thoughts. Eventually, Akaya pulled himself together enough to take the crawdads back and leave them outside Niou and Yagyuu's cave before going for a long walk.
