General update-y-ness
+ Had a new carpet fitted this morning in the living room. It's just a short-term measure to cover up the splintery floorboards which would have undoubtedly failed our health and safety check whenever it happens, but I'm liking the effect. Will be replaced with shiny solid oak flooring like the hall/stairs/landing eventually, when we're rich and can stand the disruption.
- Entirely missed the earthquake last night, despite being awake. We were watching the last episode of BSG season 3 at the time, however, so it probably just got disguised by the spaceship rumbling and edge-of-the-seat tension.
- On the breeder's advice, we've had to resort to "crate training" Phaedra, since her messing the kitchen was just getting silly despite everyone's best efforts. We can't actually fit a suitably sized crate in the kitchen, so we've improvised and made a little "jail" between the kitchen and utility (between the door and the baby gate for those who've seen it!), which she goes in whenever there's a chance she's likely to "go" and we don't want her to. If we take her outside and she doesn't perform, she goes in "jail" and is taken out at intervals until she does. The theory is that she won't soil the area she's in if she can't get away from it, much less if she barely has room to squat! It's wearing, and I don't like having to leave her cooped up whilst I'm at work (sadly necessary as that's when she wreaks the most havoc), but hopefully she'll get the message soon enough and we won't have to do it forever.
+ Pretty much all our boxed-up crap is over at Nez's now for the next few months - no more boxes next to the bed, no more boxes outside the bedroom door, no more boxes in the dining room, and in a couple of days we'll be getting all the DIY stuff out of the utility too. Yay :) Hopefully we might actually stand a chance of getting the house straight now.
