I volunteer once a week at the Winnipeg Humane Society...as a cat cuddler! This means I give all the furbabies that are out in the viewing room attention...sit with them and pet them, brush them, take them into the visitors room and let them stretch their legs, play or just sit with them...there are always lots of kittens under a year old and lots of older cats, too! The shelter is overwhelmed, however. We have hundreds of cats in the back areas waiting to be brought to the viewing room when someone gets adopted...and there are those who are waiting for clinic time or evaluations.

It really saddens me when I go back week after week and wonderful kitties like Sunny are not adopted...or older cats like Ripley are still there week after week....most of these cats are strays, alot are surrenders. We have mommies and their whole litters come in!

I get attached to the young ones who do not get adopted right away (like Sunny) but mostly, I love the older furbabies....they are so loving and just want a home with someone who will love them and take care of them. The shelter also has an "foster" program where the ctas are taken home by foster parents for a time where they can get adjusted and love. I would love to be a foster parent, but with Bitters, it is not possible...plus, Jennifer would have a hard time letting them go!

I just wish people would be more responsible about their pets and animals! We of course, have dogs and puppies, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, rats, etc. Maybe one day all humans will realize we are all in this together and we have to look after our furry brothers and sisters as well as everything else on Mother Earth.....

In the coming weeks, I am going to try and relate my days at the shelter and try and share the laughter and love I find and try to give there.
