Grey's/Spiderman 3

May 04, 2007 04:05

So, the pilot of Private Practice (as hidden within Grey's Anatomy) was interesting.  Basically, it is Grey's Anatomy, with fewer surgeries, and the characters are older.  Except Piz (or shall I say, Dell-- who, BTW, has a HUGE crush on Francie (or...Naomi, yeah.)  He asked her out...and referenced The Graduate.  OY.  Overall, though, it was pretty decent-- I still think, however, that taking Addie out of a hospital setting is...not a good idea, although I do realize that had they left her in a hospital, it would be even more like Grey's than is already is.  For what it's worth, though, I really like most of the characters-- although, I don't know if I like Tim Daly as a love interest for Kate Walsh.  Amy Brenneman's character actually grew on me throughout the episode, despite how overdone and stereotypical the screwed up therapist is.  I forget who was credited as playing Cooper, but he was...well, interesting.  I can see the writers easily pairing them at some point or another, should the show continue, and I would really not like that at all.  I kind of love Taye Diggs and Merrin Dungey together-- and his hand on her arm shows us there is HOPE that they might reconcile their differences.  And I liked both of them as Addie's friends.  They were too cute.  "You're old and ugly."

Despite the fact that is was really predictable that Addison is "barren" and has two eggs, I thought that it was heartbreaking, and Tim Daly was really, really adorable when he was interacting with her, but...they don't have enough chemistry together.  With Mark and Alex, there was much more chemistry.  And I still think that she should be with Mark.  If he were to follow her to the new show I would be in love with it.  I would miss Addex, but I would survive (although I still think that their fling was too short-lived).  I'm really conflicted-- I want to like her being paired with Tim Daly, on some level, but a) he's not quite as hot as, well, any of the other men (in my humble opinion) and b) the writers were trying to hard to make you see the connection.  Shonda seems to certainly have lost her once fabulous skills at subtlety, which is unfortunate, because that was part of what made Grey's so incredible in the beginning.

Basically, I think that there is a lot of potential in the spinoff, but at the same time, there is a pretty high chance that things could go horribly, horribly wrong.  (And I will ship Maddison to the grave...)  I realise that Mark Sloan has no place in the Oceanside Wellness Center-- but it is freaking California, for crying out loud!  It is not as if there are NO PLASTIC SURGEONS IN CA.  Seriously.

There were two scenes that really made me happy about the show.  The first one was the very first scene with Addison and...Pete (Tim Daly, obviously), where they are on the elevator together and Addison starts laughing, then rambles about horny people in aphrodisiac elevators in Seattle.  I love that he thinks she is both hot and crazy.  Although Pete's backstory was pretty...well...pathetic.  I didn't like it-- which aside from Shonda's lack of subtlety, is probably why I found myself not liking him.

Chris Lowell's character is really pointless, but I love that the three middle-aged women were ogling him.  Considering how he keeps trying to pursue Merrin Dungey, it is obvious that on the show...something would happen between them.  And I'm not comfortable with that.  Like she said, he could be her fetus.  I'm assuming his character to be about 20.  Which is pretty gross.  I mean, I never found the attending/intern thing particularly odd, because it is only like, a 10 year difference, and the interns are almost thirty, but...ew.  Plus, he's PIZ.

I LOVED TAYE DIGGS.  I know that is not news, I have always loved him-- but he was cute.  And good.  And shorter than everyone else on the show-- which, along with the tiny dog, made me happy.  Oh, and the second scene that I loved involved Kate Walsh slapping him repeatedly on the top of the head.  IT WAS SO CUTE!  Awww, awww.  He then went on to tell her the two lessons he learned in kindergarten: 1)keep your hands to yourself and 2)he who smelt it dealt it.  And then applied fart logic to the dissolution of her marriage and his own.  It was weird, and didn't completely make sense...but it was really, really cute.  It made me think I would almost love them together, you know, as a pair.  Well, except that...she's taller than him (which, you know, not a huge deal) and also...dating your ex-best-friend's ex-husband?  Not so much.  Especially because they both were responsible for their respective marriages failing-- although on that note, it's almost too perfect.  I don't know.  They have better chemistry than she does with Tim.  Just saying.

I could go on for days about this, so I'll stop now.

SPIDERMAN 3...was...well, I'm not sure quite what it was, or exactly what I thought of it.  All I know is I need more time to process, and it is a really good thing that I am going to see it on Saturday again.  It was...well, cartoonish.

This much I can say right now: I LOVE HARRY OSBORN in this movie.  Thank you, James Franco, for being awesome and completely adorable.  Aww, Harry doing the twist with MJ was one of the best parts.

Peter is a...well, pretentious idiot.  I mean, I know that is the point of the movie, but again-- subtlety, people.  Their attempt to make him look emo...didn't really work as well as it might have.

I liked the movie, I think, and I am definitely glad that I saw it...even if it was at midnight...or rather, especially.  It was...cute.  I don't agree with the choice of plot that they included, and I definitely think that I would have liked it better if they had focused on more plot that WAS NOT MJ and Peter are idiots.  That was pretty clear after the first couple scenes with them.  Also, there were a lot of really slow, boring scenes in the movie that just...dragged.  Also, they should have done more comparing Peter to Eddie, because it would have made the struggle, well, more interesting, I think.

Anyway, I there were a lot of things I would have done differently-- for instance, take out some of the pointless dancing.  It was cute at first, but seriously?  Seriously?!  There were a lot of things I liked, though, too-- mostly Harry and JJ.  JJ is my favorite Spiderman character, though, so that makes a lot of sense.  I still think he is the best cast character in the Spiderman movies. <3  There was, on the other hand, a lot of wooden acting.  And that made me sad.  Also, the crying was...well...too realistic, maybe, at times to be comfortable for the audience...and the slow, single emo tear made me want to laugh out loud.

I don't know.  I'm still on the fence.

EDIT:
Suspending judgment on the episode until I watch it again.  Overall, though, after thinking about the episode...it was pretty horrible.  I just was in denial because I don't want to admit that Shonda is fucking up my Addison, because I will never forgive her.
